    Is there a kit to replace the poppet and its associated parts or do I need to buy it in 8 differnt parts? 175 merc v6 1986 S/N 0A960011 seem tracking down the correct parts is a chore for this engine.

    my 175 hp 1987 merc outboard has been smoking alot at start up latley. I have been putting in some cheap wally world oil. Is it true or myth that the expensive merc oil will smoke alot less? how can I tell if the smoke is too much? thanks in advance. Jim

    what causes the thump thump thump???

    A couple time now in last month or so when I start up my outboard and put it in forward gear it THUMPS. back in "N" and it stops. sounds like the prop is hitting a piece of wood or somthing. running on top end is normal. idling is normal. It only did this twice now in about 4 fishing trips...
