    Impeller challenged...?

Ok, got to go get a new Stern drive gasket and some CLR after getting in there. The shift shaft assembly came out ok. I will clean up and replace bell crank O ring. The little 5/16 end nut was missing so I'll find a replacement. Meanwhile, the inner core wire moves freely so that seems like...

    Impeller challenged...?

Update, so I now have complete water flow to and from the thermostat...however, when reinserting the out drive I noticed the shift cable at point of coupling (while in forward gear position) would not even wiggle. It was completely frozen in its place where it interfaces with mating of drive and...

    Impeller challenged...?

Very helpful Lou C., I will test water flow and back flush tomorrow. ..I remain hopeful in that this has not been run without the gear lube. This was drained just prior to my pulling the drive. I now reflect that I thought it was necessary prior to removing the drive for some reason. So, I...

    Impeller challenged...?

No, not good... meanwhile I will install impeller kit and install the drive. I have water flow through to the thermostat. So I deduced the the last guy who installed the impeller didn't have the shaft pointing downward thus imploding on itself causing the over heat condition....I will keep you...

    Impeller challenged...?

Ok, got the out drive off with the help of my come along! However, while checking the gear oil, I noticed one of my vent/fill (?) Screw plugs was gone, missing...needless to say all the upper gear unit was devoid of all lubrication/oil etc.!?! So I don't know if anything is damaged or not...

    Impeller challenged...?

Ok, I'm going to the boat right now. I'll try again...although I am having a hard time pulling the outdrive...seems stuck like corrosion or something...

    Impeller challenged...?

Hugh G, my impeller drive shaft is at the 1:00 position and I can't seem to turn it by hand in neutral...I don't think this right...how do I get it to the 6:00 position?

    Impeller challenged...?

Thank you for the comments and directives! Meanwhile I plan on pulling the drive (just never have on a OMC) and searching for flapper debri etc. in hopes of finding the culprit...it's not in the down tube...then installing the impeller and parts to see what happens. I'll keep you posted! Thanks...

    Impeller challenged...?

You are correct in that upon removal, I found the housing spun or was forced to about the 2:00 position?*#? The internal wall of the housing was or had some melting inside as well. So I am not sure how to move forward...any suggestions?

    Impeller challenged...?

Thanks, although kind of stuck in that I'm not that familiar with OMC...are you suggesting I put a clear hose on from transom to thermostate inlet? Because I have no water there now, or didn't. I have another new impeller all greased up. I placed the vains in position...again...the prior two...

    Omc 140 Rochester 2v Carb

Makedust, the corrosion is what it is, first you may want to check float measurements, etc. And of course base adjustments. If it is clean you should be good...but you didn't hear that from me...

    Impeller challenged...?

Ok, me again...so I installed new impeller kit (including housing) a few weeks back (albeit without any grease, duh)... I went on to tackle new starter and altinator on my 2.3 in the meantime. So I get her to idle finally. I put her in the river...idling...but as soon as I shift into forward...

Access to Exhaust flapper 2.3 OMC?

I am wondering how to replace flapper in the exhaust down tube, if it can be reached? I am suspicious of finding flapper at bottom of down pipe contributing to bogging and overheating? Scott

    Clogging exhaust down tube?

Obviously, my friend that is why I am seeking info as to extracting the the downtube and attempting to restore it....or sourcing and replacing it... I just don't know how difficult such will be as I certainly do not want to pull the motor if I can avoid it...any ideas out there?

    Clogging exhaust down tube?

OK, so after accomplishing idle on '89 OMC 2.3, I can hear something wanting to boil/boiling from rear exhaust beyond manifold and riser...and then boggs hard when I accelerate and dies??? Any ideas please?
