    cobra exhaust manifolds

As I research different manifolds on line I see there is a variety of manufacturers available, and a wide range of prices. Some have three year warrenty while others only one. There is sierra, ossco, glm and no name. Any opinions/experiences? Thanks in advance

    cobra exhaust manifolds

1988 5.0 GM cobra. Is it at all possible to replace the old log type manifolds, with center rise manifolds (with appropiate risers) without major modifications. If so what would be the biggest advantage, if any, of doing this. I have been told that center rise manifolds are more efficient, less...

    love my starcraft

1988 22' offshore fisherman Starcraft. Great boat. I'm the second owner and it is one of the best boats I have the pleasure of owning. I'm hooked up with a cobra 5.0. Plenty of power & speed. The one problem I have is the small butterfly windows on each side of the winshield. They are similar to...

    another electronic conversion question?

Has anyone had any experience with the ESA module sold by GO2marine. The item they claim is compatible with petronix ignition? If so what ignition system and what was the end result. Was the resistor/diode fix necessary or not? 88' 5.0 cobra. Thanks in advance>

    another electronic conversion question?

I think I'm starting to get a handle on what is required to convert to electronic ignition, but still have a couple of questions. 88' 5.0 cobra. Do I need to replace the purple/red resistor wire that runs from the + side of the coil to the alternator? If so what is used? I have...

    electronic ignition conversion

Hello all. I'm sure this has been discussed many times, but I'm still unsure as to what the consensus of opinion is. Can anyone share their experience with us (good or bad) as to electronic ignition conversion. Petronix seems to be the front runner? Thanks in advance. 1988 5.0 cobra. 22'...

    Cobra outdrive

If I were to change my outdrive 5.0 88' to an outdrive from a 5.7 90' what would be the end result? My owners/operators manual calls for an overall ratio on 5.0 at 1.5:1 and on the 5.7 1.41:1. I'm assuming the upper gears is were the difference is. I am not sure what to expect. Thanks in advance.

    cobra alignment

I have read lots of info as to gimble and engine alignment and all seem to agree that tool should slide "easily" into the bearing and splines. Mine slides easy but It still takes some effort to go all the way into the splines. The pattern in the grease seems consistent all around (on the spline...

    Can't get outdrive back on!

88' 5.0 cobra. Pulled outdrive for service. Came off smooth like always. Ready to reinstall and it gets hung up on something. Nothing should have moved! Bearing turns fine, shaft engages splines in coupling ok, but about 2" to go and out drive can't go in any further. Alignment should not have...

    Cobra outdrive

Can anyone explain what would be the end result from going from a 5.0 cobra outdrive to an outdrive built for a 5.7. I understand there is a difference in ratio in the input gears, but what actual difference can I expect? Thanks in advance. 88 Starcraft 5.0 Cobra 22' offshore.

    Used cobra outdrive.

Just picked up a used outdrive as a spare or replacement. Seems to shift OK by hand and little end play on prop shaft. Is there anything else worth checking without disassembly or does it make sense to install this (maybe fresh oil) and test out on the water? Thanks in advance

    cobra bellows

Changeing of outdrive bellows, is this really that difficult? Does the transome mount have to be disassembled or can they accessed with just the outdrive off? Thanks in advance.

    Reverse rotation.

OK here is a dumb question. If I was to install a left hand prop on a standard rotation drive and operated my controls backwards what would be the conscequences (mechanically)? Of course this would be only temporary. (Like I trouble with forward gear). OMC cobra 5.0 sterndrive(88')

    OMC lower units

I'm a little confused as to what lower units are interchangable. I run a 1988 5.0 GM cobra. From what I have read on this and other forums I am getting the impression I can replace my lower unit with a variety of different models. Stringers? Pre 1988 units and newer up thru 1994? Does this...

    OMC lower unit question

After all the proper adjustments from Stuart & original service manual I still get the occasional thud or jump in the outdrive. Oil is very clean (on water), but I noticed some end play on the prop shaft. I measured with a caliper and it is about .050". Nowhere can I find what the tolerance...

    Engine water vapor ?

P.S. Engine oil is very clean. No evidence of water in oil. Cobra 5.0 (GM 400+ HRS.)

    Engine water vapor?

While checking engine last time out on the water I noticed what looked like water vapor coming from the two hoses that come off the valve covers and go to the carburetor inlet flame arrestor. This was after warmup. Could also see some water dripping from the hose ends. Is this normal? I realize...

    omc mechanic

Do any of the Long Island posters have a person they can rely on that does omc work? If so could they supply a name(or number). I'm in Suffolk, between Patchogue and Port Jefferson. Thanks in advance.

    Mildew?

I have recently developed a white/greenish powdery substance on the inside of my boat covers. Yes it was very humid and damp here on Long Island for a while. The material is sumbrella(blue in color). It only seems to be on the under side and not on vertical curtins. Most can be brushed off, but...
