    Which way should I put these seals in?

    So I finally bought a lower unit seal kit for my 65' 9.5hp and I forgot what way the seals need to be installed. I attached a couple of pic's showing the seal with the parts that they go into. My question is what way does the spring inside the seal face? Thanks

    Shift shaft seal on a 9.5hp?

    I have the lower unit apart on my 65' 9.5HP and I am wondering how to go about getting the brass bushing out that sits on top of the shift shaft seal? The only way I see getting it out is by some sort of slide hammer set up.

    Worn groove in shaft?

    I am wondering how to go about fixing the drive shaft on my 1965 9.5hp. As the picture shows there is a groove worn into the shaft were the seal rides below the impeller plate. How much of a groove is to much. I measure .0015" of difference while rotating the shaft on the surface plate at work...
