Should I buy a boat without a survey?

With a salvage title is there any chance you could contact the salvage company or previous insurance company for photos and info from the salvage? Do you know what happened for it to become salvaged? Sunk, wreaked, fire or what not?

Same here. I have good friend that was really into it and collected all kinds of stuff. He has made a fortune selling some of it the off but is still hanging on to some things that are very special to him. I get that part. I still have a Gumby that I just can’t part with. 😂

I’m thinking back to when I lived in Fl. On this day it wasn’t worth trying to leave the island as there were massive beach party’s going on and it would hours to get on and off the islands due to traffic. On the up side I didn’t have far to go far to join a party.

Free boat with history of leak... worth it? Will a survey catch issues?

Just to add my 2 cents the drill test is the way to go and know for sure how far the water got and make the repair asap. The wood will never dry out and it will become an issue some day. If the leak is a recent discovery the fix is within reach without a big rebuild project. A good thorough...

    Brake woes

I once got a caliper that no piston in it. It even had a sticker on that said inspected.

My buddy’s parents did the loop several times in a 34’ trawler and had a blast every time. It’s good to have something like to look forward doing some day.

    Brake woes

Lack of work ethic is my biggest challenge in hiring seasonal help. It’s tough to find anyone that wants to actually work for their money. I just hired 2 last week and so far so good. I might get lucky this year. Thank god my kids took after me and are go getters. And I’m also glad they chose...

    Brake woes

I recently went from a 2000 to a 2022. The term they don’t make em like they to couldn’t be more true. Everything is thin stamped steel and just feels flimsy but it is a nice comfortable ride with all the bells and whistles.

What kind of damage from an I/O in salt water for 2-3 years?

Sounds like a bucket full of unknowns to me. I wouldn’t even consider it unless I was able to get it out of the water for a complete inspection. Even if it were free. Cost of disposal would be a great concern to me. I’m sure others will chime in. Best

Omg! At first I thought they shot him and I had to watch it again before I realized he hit the sign. That had to hurt. 😞

Black scuff marks on cylinder walls

This has reminded me of the first time I operated a 4 stroke. It was durning a storm and a older guy was afraid to go get his boat off the morning and asked me and my friend for some help so my buddy took me out and I hopped on board (well it was more like a bellyflop) I started the motor and...

    Critters in My Boat

When I was a kid I would the screen out of my bedroom window so the cat could come and go as she pleased. One night I woke up to her running around the room so I turned on the tv for light and there was a moth on the screen so I figured that’s what she was playing with. When I woke up in the...

Black scuff marks on cylinder walls

It needs to be in the water with some back pressure on the exhaust to hear, see and feel the true story. But so far it sounds good from here. Jmo

    Son of a blow torch

Back when I was in the restaurant bizz we used white pepper to stop the bleeding and as an anti bacterial. It burned like hell but did the trick. Does the Turmeric work as an anti bacterial as well?

    Son of a blow torch

I almost lost a toe from an oyster bed. The infection was far more painful than the wound. Keep a close eye on it and don’t say I’ll wait another day. It’s just not worth it.

1995 Grumman deep V 17' Model SP1784 replacing deck floor

If you’re in a hot sunny climate think about going with a lighter gray on the floor. The dark can get pretty hot on the feet. Just a thought from experience. Enjoy the project.
