    No launch today.

On rare occasion I let good judgment and common sense influence my decisions. Today was too windy to attempt my first launch. I didn't even hook up the boat. I'll try again on Monday.

Noob going to launch for the first time tomorrow.

Going to get my project 74 glastron bayflight wet tomorrow. It will be my first time launching a boat. I feel I should see how it floats and runs thru the water now before I sink any more $ into it. I have my 78 Johnson 115 running well in the tank, and now I will doing the final idle setting...

Trim gauge reading reversed, Trim operates when the ignition is off.

I have an boat that I'm getting ready for the water. I have a 78 Johnson 115 that I have running pretty well. The boat had no instruments in it so I'm putting together a gauge cluster. Doing ok so far but the used trim gauge I've installed works perfectly accept that it reads up when the motor...

Rebulit the water pump, now water coming out of the exaust relief.

I have water coming out of the two exhaust relief holes at the top of the exhaust housing. Is this because the tank it's running in is too small and is creating too much pressure behind the prop? It's a 78 johnson 115. Seems to be running ok otherwise. Here's a link to the sideways vid...

Fuel pump rebiuld and or float adjustment.

I'm in the process of getting my old 78 115 Johny running and thanks to this forum It's running pretty good but i still have some issues. It seems to be running pretty well in the tank but it is smoking heavily, I'm sure way too much, my neighbors will testify to this. I know it's running very...

    Volt meter question #2

I purposely started a new thread with my volt meter question although it is related I think. I bought a volt meter from a salvage yard because they are cheaper that way and I wanted one that matches the other meters and gauges I bought from the junk yard. On to my question, My amp gauge has a...

    Tach question

1978 Johnson 115. I bought a used Tach for the old boat I'm putting together. From the help I've received here in the Iboats forums, I know that my motor is a 6 pulse system. The Tach I have only lets you select between the number of cylinders the motor has. Here's a pic or two. Will this Tach...

    78 Johnson 115 Idles at 2500 to 3000.

Back again, my old engine idles way too high. I had this problem before I rebuilt the carbs as well aas fuel pouring out of the choke plates. well now the fuel problem is solved but I can't get the idle down. I have a FSM from 78 for this motor and I've done the carb adjustments and the throttle...

Raised my motor, now my splash well drain is blocked.

Just like the title says. the transom bracket on my 115 johnson is blocking my splash well from draining. It drains very slowly, I could drill a new drain but i don't like the idea of opening another possible moisture entrance point in my 37 year old transom. also the splash well is angled...

What to do about this bit of butchery

I bought the boat this way. PO had a trolling motor bracket up front and cut this into this beautiful boat to store his Battery. I am leaning towards buying a hatch from the marine salvage yard and doing this right, if there is a right way. The other option would be to pull it and glass over...

Connecting a Temp gauge to my 78 Sea horse 115?

I would like a little more engine operating info than just the High Temp Horn warning. Are there any options for a Temp gauge on this motor?? Thanks again...Bill

Connecting a Tach to my 78 Johnson 115

My service manual refers to a Tach kit and specifies the Gray wire in the remote control unit as the tach wire. I can find no more info on it though. From looking in the forums I can figure out how to connect a Tach but I'm not sure what type of Tach I need or what type of sending unit there is...

I think I may need to raise the motor.

If I raise the motor up an inch or so, the top of the transom won't be in contact the the transom clamp. I think I read that this is acceptable. What do you guys think? The aluminum plate is something I added, didn't need it the transom is solid as a rock, but the plate was lying around so I fit...

Started right up after a decade.

Iv'e just started posting here a couple of weeks ago when I bought an old 78 115 sea horse for 200 bucks. Compression was even, just under 100 or so and the motor was clean inside and out. It had been sitting for ten years or so, well today I attempted to start it. All I did to it before hand...

How to fill the lower unit.

I just bought a 78 115hp seahorse. Good even compression 95 to 100. I just got the tilt working, there was a little water mixed in with the fluid so I flushed and filled it and it works well. I want to test for spark but I wanted to change the lower unit oil first. I read in the faqs that you...

What is the purpose of the foam

I have a 1974 Glastron v173. This is a 17' runabout with a Johnson 115 on the back.. There is foam under the floor and also on either side of the outboard behind the two rear seats. I would like to remove some of the foam behind the seats and make a battery tray there. In the center bilge area I...

78 115 sea horse. lost key

I bought a 78 sea horse that doesn't have the key. My question is can I have new keys made somewhere? It has the key push for full choke ignition so I'm thinking it will be difficult to replace. This control also has the motor tilt button on the shift handle...Thanks in advance, I tried to...

    I think I got a good deal.

I found a 78 115 johnson on craigs list. J115ETC 78C. It has been sitting for years 10 years or so. I squirted a little wd40 in each cylinder and let it soak for a bit. The fly wheel was easy to move by hand so I don't think the rings were sticking at all before I sprayed them. The engine is...

64 Golden Meteor shifter is missing. Replacement alternatives???

I bought an old boat with the Johnson 90 on it, later I found that the shifter is from a newer Johnson. The wiring is a bit different. The cable that runs from the control box to the shifter has been cut right at the shifter. The newer shifter has the complete cable but has a plug on the end...
