Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

You guys rock! Many thanks. Feeling confident now that I can make this thing work. Without sinking a ton of money into a motor that prob has little value. I was wondering about the strange shape of the bypass covers. Makes sense now. One more question, what exactly is being bypassed?

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

Racer: Thanks for your learned input. Don't you have to be a member though to post on aomci? I was also thinking of hitting up the local marina, but the old boy who owns it probably hasn't opened it yet. There is a 2nd marina, but they roll their eyes and act like I'm just being a PITA when I...

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

Thanks, got it. I was thinking along the lines of making an alum plate, tapping for a hose barb and hooking THAT up to a fuel pump that would accept a hose. Doesn't somebody make a fuel pump that doesn't have to be mounted to the motor to work? I know the best solution is the newer bypass cover...

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

Concerning the fuel pump conversion, would this work? Seems like it would be simpler than trying to make the standard OMC pump work maybe since I can just hook the pulse line up to it...

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

That's an interesting idea, but this one is a low budget project. I'm just getting it going for fun. Thinking of throwing two cheap coils in it at putting the fuel pump on it, set what I can set, and go from there.

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

Every small motor I lay my hands on seems pretty much unused, so I agree that at least in cold climates, a lot of these motors don't see a lot of use. So checked the compression, 70 per side seems pretty good to me. Anybody want to weigh in on whether 3/16" plate thickness is adequate for...

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

Thanks for clearing that up for me Racer. Looks like I'm going to make my own cover. I found a nifty piece of 2x2x 3/16" alum tubing. Would that be thick enough to tap? Or maybe I can leave an ear on it to mount the pump to. Here's pics of coils as requested. They look fine, right? :-P

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

Thank you gentlemen. Glad to hear I have options. One thing I'm not clear on though is I've seen some people say that there are check balls that need to be removed? From the "intake" if I'm not mistaken. Looks like you take the carb off and keep digging. I'll send some more pics once I get into...

Golden Jubilee Evi Sportwin 10 - Should I convert?

So I just picked up a pretty sweet little motor. Seems to be reasonably well cared for. So much so that I thought is was a lot newer than it is. Turns out it's a 1959! I still intend to get it going, but I have a dilemma. This thing needs a special tank. Pressurized right? Never messed with one...

    Timing Tips?

Many thanks for all the help. The timing was definitely worth the small amount of time it took. She's idling as smooth as any I've ever had.

    Restoring the ID Tag

Took some soap, water, and a scrub brush to it. Helped some. Vinegar and paint thinner didn't do a thing. Looks a little better.

    Restoring the ID Tag

Guess I should mention this is a $200 boat. Not interested in getting a new tag for this old 12 footer, just wanting to make the best of what I got. My thinking is something like vinegar or baking soda (maybe both?) could neutralize the corrosion without obliterating the printing.

    Wires and Caps

Condensers are all pretty much the same, correct? Get at auto parts or small engine shop? How critical is coil positioning? I see there is a jig for setting them, but never used one before.

    Timing Tips?

Rechecked the coils and they ohmed out at Top: 4.5K high side, 2 ohms on low Bottom: 4.15K, 2 ohms Flexing the wires didn't seem to have any effect. Guess all can do now is remove plug wires to check the terminal connections and maybe replace them. Really can't believe this thing isn't sparking...

    Wires and Caps

So my little '75 6 hp Johnny is only sparking sporadically on the top cylinder. EG: 20 pulls, 2 sparks. Think I've checked, cleaned, and set all that I can. Anybody got any ideas before I pull the timing plate to check the plug wires? They are definitely 7mm and I want solid core right? Can I...

    Timing Tips?

Weird, but after cleaning the points with lacquer thinner I found that the top cylinder is sparking good, but only 1 out of about every 10 pulls. The bottom cylinder remains dead. Going to recheck the windings on the coils, but then guess nothing left but to check the plug wires out. Seems like...

    Restoring the ID Tag

Just wondering if there's anything can do to an old gnarly ID tag to make it look a little better. It will never look great, but since had to take it off to re-do the transom was thinking of soaking it in vinegar or something to improve appearance before reinstalling it. Would taking a scrub...

    Leroy'S R.I.P. ???

Anybody know if LeeRoy is OK? I seem to remember seeing a post on the site a few months ago saying they'd be updating it. Hope that's all it is. I also used to enjoy reading the ramblings. Entertaining as well as enlightening.

    Timing Tips?

Think they were around 4.3 ohms, the good range is supposed to be 3-4.
