Opinions on how you would fiberglass this?

Hey all, Looking for some opinions on how the iBoats community would glass this section of a repair/resto. First I am going to secure the stringer in with PB and then thinking about tabbing it in with 1.5oz CSM. One piece of CSM on each side on the radius of the PB fillet and then maybe one...

    Foam replacement

Thanks for the replies and info - as you can see in the pics, there are only 2 small areas - neither of which were wet or subjected to water...everything was gutted that needed to be gutted in order to prepare for stringer replacement.

    Foam replacement

Hey all, When I cut out the old stringers and decking for my restore.... a bit of the foam came out with it as well. Do I HAVE to use the pour in kind - or can I cut pieces of insulating foam or construction polyurethane foam to fit into the voids... ...or do I have to replace it at all...

Quantities of resin for area of coverage

Well, now I have an idea going forward how much resin I need to do small jobs. I had an area of approximately 3.5' X 2' - so approximately 7 square feet of bare plywood. First I coated the entire sheet in 1 covering layer of resin and let it tack up. Then I used a layer of 1.5oz CSM. I went...

Quantities of resin for area of coverage

Hello everyone, Is there a chart - or some sort of calculation available that can determine how much resin is needed to coat/cover a certain amount of surface area? If I am going to brew up a batch of resin - I want to be sure it will be enough for the job I am doing. If I brew up a little...

Loctite PL - what kind to use?

I bought 2 different kinds of Loctite PL today to possibly work as a sealant/glue if needed. I was surprised they had the Marine type at Home Depot: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Loctite-PL-Marine-10-fl-oz-Fast-Cure-Adhesive-Sealant-2016891/206156418 They also had the regular Premium kind...

    Polyester Resin Catalyst Percentage Chart

Hey all, Thought I would share this... getting to be summertime for most of us, and like me will be performing glass work in the heat. These numbers are a guide and there may be a little wiggle room in the amounts - but a great starting point in working with the quantities of resin and catalyst:

Grinding down tabbing from hull - how much to grind out?

Hey all, I have read in other forums/areas about 2 separate disciplines when it comes to replacing stringers... and grinding the old glass out. I have seen that it is OK to leave a little glass left (maybe up to an inch) so you know where to align the new stringer... I have also seen some...

    Noob polishing questions

This pic was taken during the oxidation removal using the Meguiar's kit - just the oxidation removal alone yielded these results... Oxidation on one side and shiny on the other:

    Need help in estimating supplies

A majority of the decking is replacing a fuel hatch cover that is about 5' x 2' There are 2 other areas of decking that are about 3' x 2' which were cut out due to some rot Then there are the 2 x 5' stringer sections that need to be replaced. I just need to make some PB to secure in the new...

    Stringer Repair

Progress: I spoke to my local 84 Lumber and they say they have ACX and/or BCX plywood for under $30 for a 4x8 sheet... looks like that will be my go-to... I ended up removing the tank... although I REALLY did not want to.... I just didn't see any other way in glassing the stringer in properly...
