Stringer re-design advice

I'm replacing the stringers and braces in my 16' fiberglass runabout and I'm thinking of re-designing it since I'm not replacing the wood core. The photo shows the only original brace that was in one piece (2x4 material). There were probably 4 or 5 of these on top of a small plywood stringer...

    Truspeed Speedo Hook-up

I have a Truspeed speedometer on my fiberglass runabout but the tube on the back of the speedo has been cut off leaving about a foot sticking out. I'd like to get it hooked up again but I'm not sure what kind of pick-up it requires. Is there a universal fitting that connects to the tubing and...

    Jet Drive vs. Outboard

I live on a shallow weedy lake and thought a jet drive would be a good choice rather than dragging weeds on my outboard. We have a few PWC running around and they don't seem to have any complaints with the weeds but the boaters do. Also, I'd like to bring my boat in closer to the shore and...

    '64 Evinrude 75hp Steering Connection

My steering rod is attached to the motor with a good 'ol nut and bolt. This can't be safe. The motor manual doesn't get into this. How is it supposed to be connected? A ball joint? Anyone with photos?

classicboater

WOW, my apprenticeship is over, I'm a full fledged seaman!! :D

    Glassing-in stringers with epoxy

I'm going to be glassing-in stringers and braces in a week or two and I'd like to get suggestions on how to keep a good coat of resin on the vertical surfaces. I have some filler that the shop sold me. Is that all I need to mix in or is there a procedure that helps keep the resin coat thick. I'm...

How to mix and apply a hot coat?

I have three strips of wood for stiffeners to encapsulate in the bottom of my hull before I install stringers on top. I read about applying a hot coat to end grain balsa to prevent excessive resin absorption. I think I need to do the same for this new wood since I want to fill all voids between...

    Wood core totally rotted, options?

The wood core in my 16' runabout is totally rotted. I've removed the inner layup, stringers, braces and wood core and dried and sanded the inside of the hull. I don't want to install another core material. The original construction had one center stringer and 4 cross braces. Can I get away with...

    Floor/Hull Restoration

I'm undertaking the restoration of the floor and hull of a 16' fiberglass runabout. I felt the floor rise when I hit a wave so I thought it was time to check out the supports. Wouldn't you know it, everything is rotted. I've removed the floor, mulch (as JasonJ calls it) and debonded fiberglass...

    Will a rusty magneto work?

I have a 1964 Evinrude 75hp V4 that has a weak white spark and #4 is intermittent. I have cleaned and gapped points and spark plugs but still have a weak spark. I took the coil out of the distributor and noticed the magneto is all rusty. Will this affect the spark? How should it be cleaned and...

64 75 hp Evinrude, No start after warmed up

This Speedifour V4 75 hp starts first or second try when started the first time of the day but after it warms up it won't even fire when trying to re-start. After running it for 5-10 minutes it usually dies after idling a few minutes or when it goes into gear after stopping to change tube...

    1964 75hp Won't start when hot

My Evinrude Speedifour V4 starts great when stone cold and runs good but it dies after idling for 1 or 2 minutes. It won't start after that until it cools. I set the points to 0.020 and checked cooling. Have cleaned the carbs twice and leaned it out only one turn. Any suggestions?
