Sad Day For the SS United States

Great pictures. I was only 12 or 13 years old when she first sailed and didn't realize until later in life how impressive 44 miles per hour (38 knot) was for a large ship. Even today I know many people who have pleasure boats that can't reach that speed. The other thing I never knew until...

    Anyone Following the 4 Nations?

After reading Aspeck's play by play the only thing missing would be Stomping Tom Connors music in the background.

Sad Day For the SS United States

SS United States leaving Philly under tow on it's way to become a reef. I remember when it was moored in Norfolk over by the firefighting school. Used to look over at her rusting away and remember when it set the record for the fastest trans-Atlantic crossing. The vessel broke the...

    Got Ripped Off

My inlaws are dairy farmers. Father in law had two separate farms plus leased land and claimed to have never made more than a couple of grand in the years he actually made money. Raised and showed draft horses, hunting trips out West, and her two brothers never drove a pickup more then three...

    Got Ripped Off

These were only a buck each at my local dollar discount store so I bought five. Now they don't seem to work right.

    daily music fix

I just learned that Melba Montgomery passed away a little over a week ago. One of the true greats in real county music. George Jones and her made several different cuts of this song but this one was my favorite. The back up musicians on this cut were all from the A-Team with Pig Robbins taking...

    daily music fix

Got thinking back 60 some years ago as to where I spent many weekend nights. There were probably a half dozen roadside inns within 25 miles of home that fit the description of the bar in this song. It wasn't till I was 32 that I had an epiphany and changed my wicked ways. These joints all...

    Messed up my laptop

I remember having an acoustic modem where you dialed and then stuck the phone in rubber cups, 300 baud. Remember getting a 1200 then an 2400 baud modem and thought I was really flying. Now I am stuck with DSL but when I think back it is fine.

    Gas gauge not working

Great. I once spent hours looking for a bilge pump problem on a bass boat a few years back because I set the battery on top of one of the ground leads and could not see it. BTW you did hook the buzzer back up?

    Gas gauge not working

Got my curiosity up about the black/white tracer and after a little research did find that parallel grounds (what ever they are) will be marked that way. The heavy wires for the motor circuit are right as the red tape on the wire indicates. The red feed to the circuit breaker is right. the...

    Random

Or not enough, there was a time 60 years ago I would have been on skis behind that boat wearing a speedo bathing suit.

    Gas gauge not working

That is not b/w wire, just the reflection from the flash. The fix is simple. Move the red and yellow to the positive. The black to the negative. The motor wires are correct.

    Possible dumb newbie question

Just be sure to leave the motor down to be certain there is no water trapped in the lower end.

    Gas gauge not working

Can you send a picture of the wires on the positive side or describe the ones hidden behind the terminal cover. There appears to be a black wire with a white tracer there and need a little more info on it. Is it part of a pair of one black and one black/white tracer? I wonder because some...

    Gas gauge not working

Normally black goes on negative, red on positive. The yellow and red are on the negative in the picture. They both have fuse holders on them which is normal for positive feeds. The wire feeding the circuit breaker I think is right if it is red and hidden behind the terminal cover in the...

    Gas gauge not working

Check the connections on the battery. It looks like the motor electrical is ok but the accessory circuit is not. If this trouble just started after changing the battery look and be sure all the smaller wires were reconnected and there is one hanging loose that my have been missed. Fuel gauge...

    Gas gauge not working

Reread your post and I am assuming you removed it and it didn't fall out. It may somehow be a buzzer to signal low fuel. I still don't think it is the cause of your trouble but without a wiring diagram I am not positive. How to test it; 1) Connect it directly to 12v. If it buzzes it is a...

    Gas gauge not working

That part is a buzzer which would be part of an audio alarm system which would sound on engine overheat or something similar depending on what motor. I don't think that in itself is causing your problem but surely would justify a good look behind the panel to find out why it fell out and what...

80th Anniversary of the Battle of The Bulge

Thought about this on the way to a store this evening. Young clerk behind the counter, clean cut, guessing about 25. Asked him if he ever heard of the Battle of the Bulge. He said he had no idea. Gave him about a three sentence description of what it was and he seemed puzzled that we were...
