5.0GL - No Power at Coil

I left the carb off the engine yesterday hoping I could get some advise before I put it back on. But Can anyone help me out with these questions? Can someone tell me the affect my vacuum passage gasket that seals vacuum passages to vacuum secondary housing (pictured above) may have on my carb...

5.0GL - No Power at Coil

Looking at the linkage on Holley's site I would say mine has definitely bent bent by someone before me. This one looks pretty straight to me; I'm referring to the bottom half.

I hear ya. Probably doesn't apply to my setup.

5.0GL - No Power at Coil

The Choke was definitely not working. As alldodge pointed out the butterfly was not fully opening. And the cam does not seem to be working at all. Here's a video of me troubleshooting, learning and working through the process. It's easier for me to just post a vid rather than a text post. As...

5.0GL - No Power at Coil

Thank kenny that is really helpful. I was in fact using the same switched 12v wire that I use to power the coil. Holley mentioned not using a 12v source coming from the coil because it only carries 8v after it's started (again this was for a street machine) so I thought it would be okay. It was...

5.0GL - No Power at Coil

You guys are amazing. Did you seriously just apologize for not giving me free advise because you spent time with your daughter on her birthday? Wow! Thank for setting me straight on the difference between a street and marine Holley. I' haven't been able to find a video adjusting a marine Holley...

5.0GL - No Power at Coil

Help... I'm choking! I twisted the electronic choke back from it's nearly centered position until the butterfly just barely closed. I also noticed the butterfly was sticking to the side of the throttle body a little so I lubed and worked until it moved freely. Following this video: I tested...

5.0GL - No Power at Coil

Damn you're good kenny! Before rebuilding the carb I noted, marked and even took a picture of where the choke was and set it back exactly where it was. Then I started noticing starting problems. So I started adjusting it and the starting problem disappeared. But I wonder if I might have gone a...

5.0GL - No Power at Coil

I finally got around to timing the VP. Finding the timing marks was challenging but I got it done. Now there is an easy to see white paint mark on 10 BTDC. I also repainted the set mark so when lined up it looks like an arrow. I didn't capture the actual timing with video, not sure if it would...

5.0GL - No Power at Coil

I found some corrosion the first time I popped the cap. I did my best to clean it up. BTW: Looks to me like my distributor is all the way to one side of the adjustment bolt... retarded maybe?

5.0GL - No Power at Coil

It spent the last decade, maybe more, in Tampa bay. It had bottom paint when I got it so it was wet docked at some point. If I were keeping it I'd remove the bottom paint. But I'm selling it so I just repainted it. Here's a before and after.

5.0GL - No Power at Coil

Thanks for looking up the serial number for me. I've been wanting to replace the cap (ordered the wrong one). I have tried to clean the contacts twice but I think I need a new one.

5.0GL - No Power at Coil

Found them. With all this surface rust it's going to be challenging to pinpoint 8 BTDC. These pictures were taken after I did an initial wire brush and wipe down to make them a little easier to see. I clearly have more work to do. I also need to get a shop tach or something because I don't...

5.0GL - No Power at Coil

I really appreciate you identifying the distributor I have. It's very helpful. Based on what you said it looks like I have an electronic because there are two wires that connect to the coil and I don't see any points.

Will do. I'll hook my remote starter back up... easier to bump it.

5.0GL - No Power at Coil

Thanks man. I've been referring to this thread for timing specs: Procedural question on ignition timing, 99 Volvo 5.0GL PWTR The poster mentions a manual I would love to get my hands on. Unfortunately the link to the manual in the thread doesn't work. BTW I did my best tonight to find any...

Procedural question on ignition timing, 99 Volvo 5.0GL PWTR

I know this is an old thread but I it came up when I searched for timing specs for my 5.0 GL. Boy I sure would love to get that manual since I have the exact same engine. I've been flying blind with tidbits I can find here and there. I clicked on the link but it took me to a conversation...

5.0GL - No Power at Coil

Well alldodge made it sound so simple I jumped in without really knowing everything I need to know. There are still too many missing pieces for a novice like me. So I warmed up the engine and connected the light to see what I could see without really knowing how to set it up or what to look...
