    I'm just guessing here because I have never had that problem but when my float needle wasn't holding one year I had gas leaking out near the throttle plate but not from those 2 areas you mentioned. Did you replace the accel pump with Cliff's?

    So you're asking if the water pump adapter plate should be flush with the upper gear housing? I have to check mine and see if it is. I have my original and a spare drive for parts.

    If your garden hose adapter (don’t forget it has to have a gasket!) makes a good seal with the threaded fitting on the top of the dipstick tube it will suck the oil out much faster than the small tube down the dipstick tube….

    Leave it as it is and use a proper vacuum pump with a garden hose adapter; I have this same system on my OMC and have been changing oil that way for over 20 years…if you use the right pump & technique it sucks all the oil out of the engine in 5-7 minutes…

    Yep if the gaskets look good that is the most likely cause is a freeze up. What is odd though is that the manifold has that crack yet there does not seem to be a sign of water in the exhaust ports, no rust there….

    I'm sure you'll wind up with a far better boat than you started with! That is the main reason to do one of these jobs, unfortunately for me I'm past the age where I'd even consider it. So when this boat is too far gone to justify fixing, it's going to be new or nothing.

    Cliffs the real deal and has the knowledge and quality parts to get it running well. I was able to do mine with a good cleaning & better quality parts. I recently bought an ultrasonic cleaner big enough for a 4bbl!
