    LiFePO Batteries ???

Quick update . . . I took the 'off-grid' panel out of the boat and did the re-wiring as planned. . . So . . . the DC-DC charger will be activated when the port engine ignition is on. The port engine used to be in charge of charging the inverter bank, now it is in charge of charging the...

    Four winns question info please

You are right about the not-so-straight answers . . . Folks don't really know, and the manufacturers keep quiet about the details of construction. Drilling a few small test holes in the stringers & transom from within the inside of the hull will tell the story. A 17 foot boat will have foam...

Best to get the leak tester and get some numbers, but the milkshake oil may be telling the story.

    LiFePO Batteries ???

I am not sure. I was having some charging trouble last year, but I never diagnosed it. During my initial testing, the starboard alternator voltage fluctuated (over voltage, then under voltage) and created a bunch of warnings in the VesselView. After I shut the engine down and cleared the...

    LiFePO Batteries ???

No it is right out in the open . . . easy-peasy. The V-P alternator lists for $700, but it is basically a $125 alternator.

    LiFePO Batteries ???

Back in the day . . .when I was in college working summers at an electronics company that made/sold A/D and D/A converters . . . we used to write "NFG" on the parts that failed final test. One of the managers questioned our use of profanity, and we said . . . it means "Not Functioning Good"...

    LiFePO Batteries ???

Looks like the starboard engine's alternator is NFG (Not Functioning Good). Mercury part # is 8M0095472, the Alternator itself looks to be a Delco . . . Part #8600612. Port side is A-OK. I'm going to check fuses, but it looks like I get to replace the alternator . . . buried under the heat...

    Wealth preservation,....

Here is Gold over the past 15 years or so . . . . . It just broke through a fairly long term resistance at $2,000/oz. So, if it falls back, it will probably find 'support' at $2,000 or $1,600. Long term it looks like it has made an average 5% annual value appreciation over the past 15+ years...

Trilux 33 or Prop Coat Barnacle Barrier for outdrive/prop/etc

I stopped buying the spray can stuff (of Trilux 33 and similar) and buy the quart can. Then I thin it down a bit for spraying as needed. If you apply Trilux 33 with a roller - it works pretty well. Props typically are getting only the zinc spray (aka Cold Galvanizing Compound) Sometimes I...

    Oh no.....wet foam! need a plan B.

Plan B may involve removal of the fuel tank and the engine as you probably will find more wet & rot throughout the structure. Usually that chambers of the hull structure are foam filled. So, you probably have foam besides just along the keel. It would be best to figure out where moisture...

How do I troubleshoot the solar panel of my lift?

I just took a look at the manual . . . what are you seeing for the status light? Got any pictures of the wiring setup that you can post?

How do I troubleshoot the solar panel of my lift?

12 volt battery? How many watts is the solar panel rated for? What type of battery? ( lead-acid, Lithium, etc.?)

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

I took a look at the original pictures you posted and noticed something . . . not sure if it has been discussed or perhaps overlooked. . Could this be a crack in the exhaust port area of the cylinder head? Not sure if has been noticed and/or ruled out.

Help Getting Boat on EZLoader Trailer

Sounds like you were a bit heavy-handed with the throttle. Not sure what engine you have . . . some stay down better in reverse than others. Your engine might be lifting up too easily.

    Voltage low code 4602-32

Just catching up to this thread. I got the same fault code on my starboard engine when testing out my new batteries. (4602-23) . . . It complained about voltage, blah, blah, blah. There was not much of a description to the error code on my Diacom, but I was able to clear it.

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

Subscribing in . . . . I would take a second look at the fuel tank before you put it in. Boats rarely sit level in the water (bow slightly up) and are certainly not level underway. So, the vent fitting, if it does not have the internal tube going to the front, may have trouble breathing...

    Sealing Closed Cell Foam Flotation

Not sure there is a prescribed method or paint, but if you have filled the chambers in a hull and cut off the excess foam, you could slap a coating of resin on the foam before laying the deck down. Often folks fill the chambers in the hull AFTER the deck is laid down (via access holes in the...
