1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

You're welcome Joe. Was fun just now looking back through my build for that info. Page 13, post #254 of my thread is where I started the wipe down and painting process it looks like. Plastic spray bottle, 50/50 vinegar water mix is what I used. Just spray and wipe clean with a dry cloth...

1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

I painted the interior of my boat where metal was visible. Topside paint, primer, cleaned the aluminum with a vinegar mix if I remember correctly. Paint adhered very well using mainly a roller and brush. It would look even better with a spray gun, but only my FIL who is a professional...

    Are All Boats Repairable?

If the few holes are the only corrosion, then it's fixable. I would wager that theres a lot of corrosion that is unseen, and its probably hiding underneath the bed liner/ribs. Just the work to remove the bed liner to find out would make me walk. Id try the flashlight at night, or put a little...

    Are All Boats Repairable?

If theres a bed liner inside the hull, it can trap salt water. Keep that in mind, the corrosion could be worse as you peel that up. They put it there to stop leaks and made their problem worse in the end. Finding a hull that isnt full of holes can be done for minimal cost and effort. Id be...

    I'm back with a 1994 Islander 221V!

Thats the best pic I have of the main floor. You will not get one sheet to fit the whole boat so you have to patch it together. Not easy, and the sun actually shrunk mine by 1/8", so there are little gaps here and there. My deck was just epoxied, then I used a spray adhesive to hold the...

    I'm back with a 1994 Islander 221V!

Im a big fan of that faux teak foam flooring! (Hydroturf). Used it in my boat and very happy with it. It has fooled almost everyone who looks at it, they think I have real wood floors! Haha

1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

The PO used some sort of adhesive, almost looks like 5200, to secure it to the hull. Was stuck so well that I just left it. So not sure what to tell you there, but 5200 would probably work? Or some sort of epoxy that you could scrape off if needed. Good question.

1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

I knew you and the Admiral would get there! Looking great too and steady working as she goes. Floors are a huge step because it all goes in fast after that. My plumbing for the bilge pump runs right out of the cutout, over the floor, to a fitting on the side of the hull - simple. The wires...

1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

Ive been out of town and the foam is done! Looks great Joe! Glad to see you move onto the flooring. For the bilge pumps, I ran my wires above deck so no need to install before putting the deck in. Are you running plumbing under the deck for wiring? Under the driver side gunnel there should...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Time on the water is definitely good for your health! I reused my PO's switches and wish I didnt in the nice mahogany dash I built - either panel you showed is way nicer than mine. Buy a common sized switch panel thats of decent quality and go for it. Even cheap ones should function for quite...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Glad you fought and won SM! Cancer is a real $&@?!. Ive lost far too many friends and family to it. Enjoy every day you can. As far as the switches go, mine sure arent waterproof haha. But they are "protected" by a bimini and hide behind the windshield on the dash. My fuse box is from blue...

1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

Boats coming along nicely Joe. When I redid the floors in my boat, I tried to use existing holes that were already there. Problem is they had loosened up over the years and sometimes the rivets wouldnt grip anymore. I ended up putting half of them in new holes regardless, and I found out the...

    New Journey

Cant comment on the trailer as I dont have enough experience there. But the paint and floor look great!!! I think grey is a good color on these boats, especially when geared towards fishing.
