    1978 SS 16 restoration

@Siva283 The fuel tank I put under the casting deck was a challenge to build. It does sit slightly more forward than I would prefer for weight balancing - doesnt sit dead center. Also seems to starve my 75hp motor for fuel so Im going to have to put in a fuel pump I think. I would not put one...

Starcraft 1971'? 16' to Duck Boat Rebuild

Congratulations on the splash and successful duck hunts!!! As for those holders, maybe a double sided 3m adhesive tape would work. Cant say how long that would last though.

    Adding an outboard bracket/offshore bracket

I am in no way qualified to give advice on an outboard bracket, but it has crossed my mind for my boat as well! I like the idea quite a bit for better handling, a step/platform, and more space in the interior. Go for it so I can see how you do it!! If it were me, not sure if I would weld or...

    1978 SS 16 restoration

I drilled out around 200 rivets and honestly never had much issue doing it free handed. The ones with the head missing seemed even easier since you could see where the rivet tail begins. Only ones I screwed up were if I wasnt perfectly aligned with the tail hole as I drilled though. My...

    1978 SS 16 restoration

Ah understood. I agree, backer would fix it and add strength. Sounds like you’re all set with rivets! Shouldnt be too bad to get back together now.

    1978 SS 16 restoration

Reread your post and looked at the pics again of the knee brace. Reinforcing with angle AL or replacing the tabs with it should both work. Id still upsize the rivets for more strength and stacking the angle on top of the original may require longer tails. Only issue with upsizing rivets for...

    1978 SS 16 restoration

I just made the wings and attached them to the original knee brace. That being said, if you are worried about additional load force coming onto the knee brace, you can use heavier AL, as well as larger wings to spread the force out more. The limiting factor will just be the original knee...

    1978 SS 16 restoration

I obviously used some thick AL too and wish I would have gone with thinner, mainly to make it easier to work on. Harbor freight metal bender and .125” AL sheet cut with a jigsaw. Believe that starcraft used .88 or .96 or something for various parts of the boat, other guys with more knowledge...

    1978 SS 16 restoration

Just a thought for the knee brace vs welding new wings. Im not the only one to have done it this way but finding them in poor shape is pretty common. Guaranteed this is stronger than it was when originally manufactured too. Edit: Made all the rivets 1/4” instead of 3/16” where its attached to...
