2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

We should take odds on the likely causes and see who wins . . .

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

Just reading through some dialog and comments about EMCT overheat issues, I came across this one comment . . . "Too many things to go wrong with Smart Craft. Gets your blood pressure up and your wallet out. This will be my last boat with SC. Analog worked well for many years, KISS" Funny...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

Quick Update . . . There is a temperature sensor at the bottom of the exhaust riser - Mercury P/N 885342002. So, I assume that is what the 'EMCT' temperature readings are from. I answeredmy question, the EMCT is the raw water and the ECT is the coolant. I can run a recording of the port...

    Bravo III Mixing Prop Materials

Bravo 3 are stainless steel propellers - no hub. I have the 4/3 set on my outdrives. you can get a 4/3 set if you want to try it - about $2k

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

Yes, that makes sense. Particularly if a pice of the impeller broke off as the next stop is the PS cooler. Just have to find it at the back of the engine.

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

My thoughts are that if the restriction were at the end of the sea water flow (exhaust) the pressure would be high, if not higher than it should be. If the restriction were earlier in the coolant flow, then the sea water pump would be 'starving' for a full supply of water. Another thing is...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

Thanks for the replies . . . The water pressure sensor is buried amongst hoses, not an easy swap. I suspect that the pressure is probably reasonably correct, given the exhaust overheat. The impellers that I removed last year were in very good shape. 100% intact. The water pressures last...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

Quick update . . . my video stopped a bit short of the full recording. The stbd side EMCT got up to 186˚F while the port side was at 161˚F . . . so 25˚F difference. Not sure if that is significant enough or not. Perhaps so on a WOT run. I am also not sure what the EMCT is reading Coolant...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

Greetings, Branching off from my 'boat is being a boat' thread, I am posting about an issue with the starboard engine cooling system (Serial # in my signature below) Keep in mind that the engines in my boat are the in-house Mercury built engines, not the GM 6.2 that preceded them. Fun Facts...

Can you change a Tohatsu 9.9 hp to 20 hp?

Might just be Internet hearsay about the HP increase . . . Often motor models that are a small HP increment from each other are done with carburetors/throttle settings. I have seen this in a variety of small motors, not just outboards. I would think the 20 HP model is all together a larger...

    Engine problems while on vacation

When else is a boat engine going have problems? Boats seem to know when you need them the most and act-up accordingly. You probably should have gotten the full Diacom software and not just the code reader. The fuel should be fine since it is not that old. You have a variety of...

Help with color matching touch up paint

Welcome to iBoats . . . Pontoon boat, right? Maybe tell us a bit more about what needs painting? Have you tried reaching out to the company's customer support? I believe the parent company is APEX Marine (?) Of course, color matching 11 year old color will be a challenge.

    Sea foam for outboards?

I tend to use SeaFoam if I am trying to de-carb an engine or clean out a carburetor. If you are just going with a gasoline preservative, then the 'Stabil' and similar products are better IMO. If you are going for engine/fuel system cleaning, then Seafoam or fuel system cleaner are the things...

Keel damage - read too much - your thoughts?

We see this often. It is hard to tell from the picture if it is leaking. I suppose if you put the boat nose down on the trailer for a while it would confirm a leak (or not). But, yes, glass mat . . . or even some biaxial cloth to build up the area. Sand to the proper shape and coat with...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

I will say that this boat handles the ocean much better than my Formula 330. More weight and sharper 'V' hull.

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Yup, if it is not one thing it is another. I'd hate to think what it would cost (Time and Money) to have a shop take care of all the issues that come up. Not sure that I've actually had a trouble-free season with any boat . . .

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Water pressure update . . . We were out on the boat for the day. about 12 miles there and 12 miles back. On the way over the raw water psi was Port 22 psi, Stbd 15 psi (3600 RPM), engine temps were fine. On the way back the Port was 22 psi, Stbd was 11 PSI. Engine RPM 3700 . . . The Stbd...
