The story of two motors - 75 Johnsons

Ugly Duckling is alive!! Cleaning the carbs really woke her up. Sure she has issues, but she ran today like it was her last chance to prove herself. And she took gold!! Fixed some gas leaks too in the fuel lines that run to the carbs. Other than that, no issues whatsoever with UD. She...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

This morning started with me testing the motor again in the trashcan for a warm up. Found a few more tiny fuel leaks where the lines split to the carbs. Old fuel lines just couldnt be sealed tight with zip ties, so I got new fuel line and replaced the leaky sections quick. Then we headed for...

    1974 Starcraft SS16 Restortation

I keep my cover over mine constantly and never noticed any wear on it. But now Im going to go double check lol. Covers are cheap insurance to keep the boat nice and clean, especially where I live in the forest.

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Well…. Been a long month since my last splash attempt, and a few weeks since I even had time to work on the boat. Archery season starts in 2 weeks and unless I fill my tags quickly (doubtful), I wont be on the water much anyway. My kids been sick all week and since we cant take him to a...

    1976 22' SUS O/B "Hydration Break"

Long bolts are factory (SS i believe) and hold the rub rail on. Under the rub rail trim and inner trim should be aluminum pop rivets with a steel center - it holds the gunnel panels on. Not a bad item to replace either. I replaced all mine as well as most the solids on the gunnel too due to...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

I hear ya on having the old motors. I love the sounds n smells too. I just look at it from a financial point. Ill only throw in the towel if it gets to where im throwing more money at it than its worth. Having high hopes that i get em working.

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Update from the motor thread. Even though the current motor has lower compression than normal, she does run and would keep me at 30mph all day last year. So I fixed the lower prop shaft seal leaks, and rebuilt the carbs. Hoping that helps her start/run better. Going to test her in a trash can...

The story of two motors - 75 Johnsons

Back in the saddle after a vacation and catching up on life. Where we left off…. I was polishing a turd and thats done now. Ugly Duckling got new lower prop shaft seals, and her carbs rebuilt. I broke a plastic gas fitting on the primer solenoid cover so will replace that when it gets here...

    Speed of a 21ft Mariner

Makes me want to paint more of my boat white!! Lol. She looks great! Probably flys out of the hole and I bet thats the biggest difference between the two motors.

1975 StarCraft Mariner build "The Unicorn"

Im wondering if you could get some blue loctite on those screws in hopes that you do not have to retighten. Also may help avoid the potential future rust issue by sealing the bond too, since Id guess those are steel screws.
