    Hurricane Helene

There was a gap in the storm this morning, so my wife and I decided to go fishing! https://forums.iboats.com/threads/hurricane-bite.775149/

    Hurricane bite!

This morning there was a gap in the hurricane, so my wife and I decided to hit our favorite lunker hole. When we arrived, the sidewalk leading to the pond was completely flooded over, about ankle deep. I chose not to ruin my New Balance shoes or risk walking barefoot, but my wife wasn't...

    Hurricane Helene

Hoping everyone in the path has the hatches battened down. We have our place secured and are prepped for the event. Looks like we'll get 50-80MPH winds here.

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

My wife and I got out there this morning and got the trolling motor hard mounted. It went on quickly and easily because I bought an extension for my impact driver bits. Worked a treat. With the extension, I was able to easily reach the screw heads which are between the mount rails...

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

Not much progress being made. I had a bad health week, but I did get out there for a short while this afternoon. It was cloudy for much of the day, so the temps were only in the low 80s, but humidity was still miserable. I got started on mounting the starboard side Micro Pole. Managed to...

Why I do not have new boats.

Your old prof was probably referring to Moore's Law which states that computer processing power essentially doubles every two years. And I look forward to the click-zoom boat functionality again! I bought my 1985 Bass Tracker Tournament TX-17 new and kept it for 8 or 9 years and had no...

Why I do not have new boats.

I'm tired of dealing with old boat carp. I had a couple of old engines for sale, along with a bunch of associated parts. Got zero interest. Zero! I pulled the ads and am giving the junk to my buddy for scrap. My aluminum Chieftain project boat has been for sale for months and...

    Star trek stuff.

"...The thrusters are fueled by liquid hydrazine, which is turned into gases and released in tens-of-milliseconds-long puffs..." We used to call those "mouse farts." The combustion chamber is lined with a catalyst, which sets off the hydrazine when it's released into the chamber, causing...

How good is your diy aluminum boat paint job

A couple of caveats: if you have a fully equipped paint shop, lots of experience and aren't afraid of using hardener without buying the correct personal protection equipment (PPE), yes you can paint your boat for $100... probably more than that now though. Correct PPE. I painted my 1976...

    Nobody fishing?

A few days ago, buddy took me to a 460 acre private lake and I fished from the bank while he and another friend did some work at the property. I wasn't expecting much, since it was so hot and the water was only a foot deep at the shoreline. Nice surprise with this 3.5 pound largemouth! 😎

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

I had to wait for a bunch of parts to come in. They're here now and a couple days ago I made a parts run to a local marine store to pick up some tinned 8 gauge wire and stuff for the trolling motor. I've also been busy "clearing" stuff from the garage by selling or scrapping things in there...

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

I have to figure out which gauges to use for the dash. The donor boat had some good stuff which is needed for that powerful XR6. I'll do some testing and mixing and matching to see what will work. I'll likely have to add another sensor or two for the engine. And also put in some indicator...

30 Aug 24 I have two Power-Pole Micro anchors for this boat. I got the first one installed.

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

29 Aug 24 I tested the trolling motor for operation today. It's a 12/24v Motorguide Brute with 67 pounds thrust. It tested fine. Should work well for this boat.

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

25 Aug 24 Got started measuring and drilling holes for the trolling motor. Ran into a supply problem and had to order some stuff, causing more delays.

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

21 Aug 24 Did some more layout testing for the trolling motor and got a bunch of screws removed. Left a few too. The "door" that clamps the trolling motor to the bracket was too tough for us to open, so I got my buddy to do that for me.

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

19 Aug 24 Got the boat back into the garage. It's still a mess in there though. Another task for another day. Gotta get the boat splashed first!

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

18 Aug 24 The garage was a total mess and had been for a long time. I won't say how it happened, but he's moved out now. :ROFLMAO: My wife and I had planned on going out that morning to get the garage cleared out enough to get the boat back inside to be worked on. Annndd.... I got out...
