I cut the tube this morning and it's just a water hose for the speedo, as I'd suspected. Got the engine and jack plate off a little while ago. Pix to follow! 😁

And that last little tube was in fact just a water hose for the speedo.

Yup. He just cut the cable itself. The engine is being moved to another boat and I'll be switching to hydraulic steering then.

Thanks guys. My buddy came over last night and got the cable off for me. Yes, he used a big wrench to tighten the jam nuts. Then he turned the steering wheel hard over until it stripped the internals. After that, he used an angle grinder and cut it off. Brute force. No problem! :ROFLMAO:

Well, I sold my KF last week. Only took 9 minutes after I listed it. The first hit was 1 minute after listing. Guy wanted me to allow a $500 discount because he wanted to give me his kayak in trade. Nope. The second guy texted me 8 minutes later and ended up as the actual buyer...

My buddy stopped by and was here and gone in 5 minutes. :sneaky: It's amazing how fast you can get the cables out when you use an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel! :ROFLMAO: The last item I have to deal with before I can pull the engine is this little line/tube/wire. I'm guessing it's...

In addition to the XR6 stuff, we pulled the existing Minn Kota 42 lb. trolling motor off the MC, tested it and then set it aside for possible sale. The plan is to swap the MotorGuide 67 lb. unit from the donor to the MC. However, the MG unit is only a 40" shaft, while the MK is 48 inches...

Well, I've started the process of removing the XR6 from the donor boat. Got a little done yesterday morning, then got everything disconnected from the engine except one stubborn cable on the dual steering setup. Ugh. My buddy is supposed to come over this evening to have a look.

    1992 XR6 150

I'm currently in the process of pulling the engine from a dead hull. I have everything disconnected except one of the dual steering cables. Just can't seem to get the cable on the right (towards the bow) to engage the threads and actually turn. Any magical moves to get it loose?

Gee, I'd never seen one of those connectors in my 71 years of life. We didn't use them at NASA. :sneaky: I figured it out though. It rotates clockwise vertically and popped right off. I'm not one to just force things to see what happens. Gee, thanks though.

How do I get this connector off the throttle cables?

I believe so. There were identical pumps on my 50 & 70HP Mercs. The prior owner of one of the 70s told me that he got the pump from a 90 as well.

Yes, the TNT motor is likely separate. Replacements are available, but they're pricey. Not to mention that if the motor is gone, the hydraulic lines might have to be replaced as well. More bucks.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to doing this again. Y'all remember this video from when I had the KF donor crushed, right? Too much fun!

I'm not sure if I want to move that jack plate over to the MC. The boat is rated for 150HP, but I could end up hauling like the one below. Remember this little girl imitating a turbo? I figure the MC with the 150 and jack plate might be like this. Is that good or bad? 🤪 😂

It begins... Sold the KF yesterday and turned my attention to the MC project. 😁 First step is to get the big 150 off of the donor. I got the cover off and things lined up, but that's all for today. "The boy" graduates from HS today, so we'll be busy preparing for that. 👨‍🎓 I'm gonna...

I'm thinking that's probably a 1981-83 and may or may not be crank rated power in lieu of prop rated. I recall reading that Mercury started transitioning to prop rated earlier than other manufacturers, so it's a guess. I know that the brown stripe 1985s were prop rated.
