1990 Bayliner Trophy with twin Force 120s need advice on prop sizes

Since you said that water was definitely getting into the exhaust chamber then I would think as each piston went up and down it could introduce water into that cylinder. The water comes in under force from the water pump so I can rationalize this. On the one piston being wet and the others...

    Oil injection delete

Well sir that "used to be" the way they worked.....today, after the EPA stuck their nose in the subject its no longer the case. I have been boating since it was about 17, back in the '50's. Have boated all my life. I am not a non educate newbie in the subject.

Constant ringing noise from throttle when motor is running.

On my 4 cylinder Mercs, the sensor is embedded in the rear cover plate (water jacket) on the rear of the block.....the plate that the spark plugs protrude through, held in place with one small screw. Wire is tan.

No I don't. I cut open one of them and besides the outer shell being resistive, I found a rubber cylinder inside....doing nothing, just taking up space and offering resistance to what I said.

1990 Bayliner Trophy with twin Force 120s need advice on prop sizes

A "washed clean" plug (and you are showing 4) can signal water in the combustion chamber....a likely cause.....source, the cooling water that is circulated over the exhaust cover may be getting into your combustion chambers via a defect of some sort with the cover plate between the two...

    Oil injection delete

I boat infrequently. As a result my first start is problematic, on 2 engines, one of which is driving the boat in my Avatar, kissing 50 with a 90 HP engine on a 17+' aluminum bass boat........so obviously there isn't anything wrong with the engine. With today's squeeze bulbs, unlike the old...

1990 Bayliner Trophy with twin Force 120s need advice on prop sizes

First thing is to get loaded up and go out and firewall the throttles and trim to best performance. What is the RPM of both engines under these conditions? Best performance is near the top end of the recommended operational RPM range.....would be somewhere around 5500 to 6000 RPM. If you are...

Constant ringing noise from throttle when motor is running.

On larger engines the noise is a warning that either your internal oil system isn't working or your engine is over heating. On some engines the low oil is a pulsating signal whereby the over temp is a solid horn......if they have the pulsation module. If you are on muffs and only have this...

    Oil injection delete

I have a 2002 115 2 stroker and had the same year 90 2 stroker. On both engines all I did was to unscrew 3 (as I recall) screws on the oil pump,( in close proximity to the inlet fuel hose inside the engine cowling), temporarily disconnecting one short hose (which I reinstalled when finished)...

Why is gear oil leaking out of lower unit when running?

I'm going to say that your water supply to/at the engine water pickup is inadequate on the muffs, if you don't have water impeller pump problems or sticking shut thermostats or if running at higher speeds on the hose, the pop-off valve stuck shut.

2019 Mercury 20HP EFI 4 stroke, hard initial start.

Depending on the layout of your boat and fuel distribution constraints, maybe it needs some help. My 2 strokes have fuel pumps too but you have to get the fuel within the operating range of the pumps and that is the problem with first starts. I didn't change anything in the engine, just...

    Need advice

I have a "Flip Phone" and it doesn't have aps.........yeaaaaaaaaa. For weather forecasts I rely on Weather Underground .com on the 10 day forecast. You get all the anticipated weather info including barometer, humidity and wind direction and velocity anticipated throughout the day listed in a...

    Title Issues

In Texas there is now a method whereby you can register a lost title boat to a different owner. There are certain conditions where that is allowed. Texas Parks and Wildlife site (a self funded state agency) is where you pick up the forms, fill them out and with the fee, send the application to...

    Prop Help

Lot of verbiage here but I see a deep V, high dead rise at the transom boat meaning that the engine height is OK, if not a couple if inches too high....but that might not be a problem or may be. My first thought is pull the aluminum prop, throw it in the trash and install a good quality SS...

2019 Mercury 20HP EFI 4 stroke, hard initial start.

Nothing! Ok, here's something: I have/have had 2002 90 and 115 2 stroke Mercs. First start of the day is hard for me too. Problem is getting enough fuel to the carbs to get things going. I am finding problems with current issue squeeze bulbs acting like they are delivering fuel but not...

89 Mercury outboard 100 hp shift shaft alignment

If you only changed the water pump your lower unit should still function. The shifter splined shaft (stub) sticking out the top of the LU is embedded in a piece of metal (bar) at the front of the LU, internally. On the other end of that bar are 3 detents, each being a different dimension from...

Repair and owners manual v150 Mercury

1990 Mercury 175 Overheat warning possible causes?

The stats are for slow speed heating the combustion chamber to prevent fouling and better combustion. The poppet is larger in area than the stats and essentially opens the combustion for full flow of cooling water at the higher speeds. For my 4 cyliinder Mercs it happens at about 2500...
