    2008 Fishhawk Fuel Tank Question

If you are talking about a Crestliner (brand) Fish Hawk (model) and it is like my 2002 the vent is part of the fill port. When you pull the fuel filler cap off and look down in the hole there is the large fill hole and on the side a small vent hole. Does the fuel gauge register full?

    Winter Prep for So Cal

If it were mine, I'd remove the battery, take it home and put it on a trickle charger. I have a farm and have a dozen or so batteries in different equipment and a lot of them don't get operated regularly. After having dismal luck with my batteries, and the cost of new ones, I realized that...

1989 merc black max xr4 prop questions

The sales brochure lists both. In second guessing the model and what its designed to do, the smaller case is designed to go fast so one would expect, with the smaller 13" wheel, the prop would turn faster so that you were going faster at WOT RPM with a light boat and a lot of pitch in the prop...

1989 merc black max xr4 prop questions

I'm assuming a 1.87 since you are into 14+" props and not 13+" props which would be the smaller 4" dia. housing, 1.76 gear ratio on your engine to prop. With that said, per (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1axsbSmCOZZBLIE6TUahFbAIbenrB3fn3ehb6G698FmE/edit?usp=sharing) your slip is 11%...

    Upgrades to old alluminum boat

If you are in a 300 acre lake leave it be. If traveling any distance, the helm will move you forward and more HP will make it a different boat. My nearest engine to yours was a 1956 Johnson 5.5 and it moved the boat but that's about all. Wouldn't plane even with lots of gear/fuel tank moved...

Should I opt for oil delete? confused. seeking expert consult

I had that engine and decided to pull the drive gear and go with pre-mix after 12 years of age and usage. No reason but felt that it was a good idea. I replaced it with a 115 of the same year-model, design, series of Merc. and stayed with the OEM VRO. I use/used wallyworld's Pennzoil Premium...

    1983 140hp Suzuki or a 115hp 96 Johnson ocean runner

Not changing the subject but mentioning my Mc 9.9 fisherman....low profile engine, the !@#$%^&*()_+ designers didn't route the exhaust down into the slipstream. It went straight out the back immediately above the AV plate. Every time you got on plane, the roar was deafening. The only reason I...

    1976 Mercury 850 value

The 50 was probably a "Classic 4". Merc. made that engine long enough to get all the bugs out. Was the 65 a triple looper? Haven't heard a lot of good about the lower powered triples. I had the '02 90 triple and once it got enough fuel to start for the day, it was rock solid...had it for 10...

    1976 Mercury 850 value

I had one of those, I bought new. One of the most reliable, easy starting (especially in winter) engine of any I ever had and roughly 20 engines of various brands. I used to laugh because at the ramp, there would be several boaters trying to get their engines to start and I'd back down the...

    1983 140hp Suzuki or a 115hp 96 Johnson ocean runner

I would have guessed just the opposite. Only things I have picked up on in running/using boating forums is that, like their bikes, they build a quality/reliable product. However their representation in my area is sparse.

correct prop for 74 mercruiser 140hp

I wouldn't recommend that......too many changes to prop specs.....if the same pitch might load him down too much......but the ports would help his hole shot even if his top end wound up suffering.....saying this since he said he has one shot to get it right.

Has anyone built a boat with Marine Plywood

........and oak frames. I tested that red/purple (forget which) on 2 pieces of White Oak glued together in a +. The Oak splintered while the glue held fast as I was able to get it separated....a trying experience. One of the attributes of Marine Plywood is the laminations/thickness. I'd...

Low operating temperature in a Mercury 90

Idling for extended periods , or running below 2500 RPM (Serv. Man. #) allows the T stat to control block temperature. Above that RPM, the larger diameter Poppet Valve opens and the block temp runs just a few degrees above ambient surface water temp.

    Cavitation Burns

Only time I had it was back in 1971 with a Chrysler 85 hp. The OEM Aluminum prop had a funny shaped leading edge. When emanating from the root/hub interface, rather than the blade sloping back in normal fashion, it had a reverse "S" whereby the metal went forward and then assumed the normal...

Prop help 75 hp 4 stroke mercury

Trim definitely is a necessity to find the right combination to support the associated activity. Your new boat, besides being heavier may not have as good of a planing transom area as your old boat. Flat hulls at the transom vs hulls with significant dead rise at the transom plane much easier...
