    Looking for replacement heat exchanger

you have to look down the tubes for clogging and scale. Obviously not the issue that brought you here but if you have cooling issues down the road ...

I just got this rope and it has some frays.. Think it's OK to use??

If it was in my ski locker would have no issue using it. Having just bought it I would send it back unless you are in a time pinch

    1985 MerCruiser 190

Don't know how you can test it but yes you can change out the regulator if you can find one. In addition to being trouble prone, I believe they are NLA hence the alternator that most folks do.

    Mercruiser vs. Volvo parts availability

While the dog clutch is not sexy it is hard to beat a Merc Alpha for parts availability and low cost of ownership. Gen 2 which is current production came out in 91, so plenty of older boats with them installed. Of course this only works for boats up to about 22 ft before they tap out to a more...

    Mercruiser 305 V-8 Temp issues

then 180 is an issue. Did yo verify the thermo housing is actually 180 -200 with a IR gun? Not an issue only thing would be potential for exhaust leaks

    Mercruiser 305 V-8 Temp issues

the balls are part of the warm manifold system, allows some cold water to flow to elbows when thermostat is closed (cools exhaust) then should shut when warm water off the thermostat comes up through manifolds. Theoretically cuts down on condensation in cold manifolds by just supplying cold...

    Mercruiser 305 V-8 Temp issues

depends on what thermostat 140 or 160 140 thermostat should be 150 or so My 160 thermostat runs about 165-170 not being under pressure like in a automotive radiator they run cooler temps so it doesnt boil and lessens mineral scale buildup

    Mercruiser 305 V-8 Temp issues

Pressure test the cooling system- block of inlet and outlet hoses with pipe fittings, T in a gauge, rig up a way to inject compressed air. Should hold 15 psi relatively indefinitely. If head gasket is blown would expect to see air coming out a cylinder via sparkplug hole and or into crankcase...

Mercruiser 3.0 LX Mechanical Fuel Pump. I am replacing with a new one is this normal?

Clamp it in a vice. It will be stiff but should move. Doesnt need vacuum or pressure but there may be plugs in the inlet and outlet that need to be removed . If it doesn’t move return the pump.

Mercruiser 5.7 with V6-14 TB IV module??

Attached is a helm wiring digram. It show the purple coming off the key switch thru the kill switch, then daisy chaining through the gauges to supply the alarm and then the purple ignition wire. you are likely losing the 12 v on the purple though the multiple connections. The alarm isnt to put...

Mercruiser 5.7 with V6-14 TB IV module??

What is the blower alarm? All the kill switch should do is interrupt 12 v ignition circuit from key to engine harness. I’ll see if I can dig up a helm digram

    Mercruiser 305 V-8 Temp issues

If the hose is getting stiff and the elbows and risers are hot then I would think water flow out through the exhaust is impeded and manifolds an risers will help. Did you verify that the ps cooler is not blocked? Some where there is a flow test for alpha one drives. I think like 3 -qts in 15...

Closed Cooling System Part # 860234A1

Why dont you post a pic of the engine and bracket where it is hitting the belt. Wonder if belt is on wrong or if someone added the seawater pump separate. Is the engine an alpha model originally as you list both alpha/bravo above ?

What does this marking mean on this new to me outdrive?

He is just being a wise azz... Did you ask the guy you bought it from.... Yes most likely customer name so they can put it back on a boat in the spring, which must not have happened... Did it pass a pressure test?

Bought a Used Boat, but what is it?

What is it - probably a bucket of chit. The more you stir it up the more it will stink. I think by the time you check the stringers, transom, and floors for rot you will wish you left it where it was sitting. As others have eluded it is a really obsolete engine and drive combo. Yes the engine...

Mercruiser 5.7 with V6-14 TB IV module??

Check the kill / Man overboard switch. ignition gets power off starter when cranking then switches over to purple wire when in run. Can verify by putting key in run, check for 12 v at coil positive terminal
