    Stacking of electrical connections

Consider the flow of electricity to the brush wire. That's a pretty high current flow. It starts on the buss the screw is threaded into. What is touching the buss is the SS heat sensor bracket. Poor conductor of electricity. The brush wire connector is next. Then a washer and screw...

    Starter for V8-300-C-A

So I found something odd with old and new starter. The battery cable lug is not on a stud on the solenoid held by a nut. Rather a metal spacer is screwed to the stud and the battery cable lug is held tight to the spacer with a bolt. The spacer and the bolt are grabbed by a magnet so steel...

    Housing

I think you need more details on exactly what repairs were done. If a lot of water got into the outdrive it needs to be completely disassembled. All gears and bearings examined for rust or other damage and then the drive out back together with new seals. I am assuming what was replaced was...

    Stacking of electrical connections

So I may be trying to dissect the smallest detail. The attached picture shows the temp sensor mounting bracket for a bow thruster attached to the bottom screw, along with a brush wire. The top screw is an ring terminal for an electrical connection for the temp sensor along with another brush...

    Starter for V8-300-C-A

My old started looks like it has seen better days. I ended up buying a Milwaukee M18 mid-torque impact wrench to get the starter bolts off. It took the impact wrench about 10 seconds per bolt. But neither bolt snapped..

Engine backfires shuts off when first running, then perfect after 30 minutes low speed both motors

Pull the fuel filters and pour into a clean mayonnaise jar. What does it look like? What is the history of the fuel in the tank?

    New to Volvo family

With the raw water pump being driven by the engine it's about 15 minutes to change the impeller. And no hassles with pulling the lower unit off the outdrive to change the raw water impeller.

    New to Volvo family

With a VP outdrive you can typically feed water under pressure into the outdrive via muffs. But cannot suck water or say pink RV antifreeze from a bucket and have the cooling system work properly.

    New to Volvo family

It's on top of the engine. Under the cover. I have a 2012 and that is where mine is.

The muffs I have used on my Metc Alpha One work fine on the VP DPS- A outdrive.

I set the ratchet direction with the ratchet in my hand.

    Starter for V8-300-C-A

The access is pretty good. I can see the outside bolt but not the inside one. The paint in that area is flaking off and the bolt head looks corroded. But the 6pt socket fit tight but I was not strong enough to loosen the bolt. I can only get to the boat once or twice a week. It's not in my...

    Starter for V8-300-C-A

I have a new VP #3885317 starter but cannot get the bolts off the old starter. With a 6 pt socket and ratchet wrench handle. At 70 maybe just not strong enough. I will spray PB Blaster on the bolt head but still concerned about snapping a bolt if it's corroded at the threads. The bolts is...

Time for Riser & Manifold > VP or Barr?

It seems now Permatex Ultra Copper is good for the high temp of exhaust manifolds. I know I used Permatex Black but it was maybe a decade ago and it could have been only between the exhaust manifold and riser.

    Help transom leaking

It's good to pull the drive(s) one a year especially in salt water. You can grease the spline, u-joints, inspect the bellows and kind of makes sure the drive does not get stuck (corroded) on the transom assembly.

    Water pump dripping 5.0 GL

Water pumps are made to weep before they fail. If it's not a hose with a leak then replace the water pump. It will get worse.

replacement Chevy engine for volvo penta

You want marine quality. Resistance to corrosion and protected from spark that could ignite gas fumes. You can buy aftermarket marine quality like Sierra. Just avoid the parts made for an engine in a car.

Time for Riser & Manifold > VP or Barr?

On all the gaskets. Put a little on with your finger. You want it "wet" with the Permatex Black but not enough so much if any squeezes out when you tighten things.

Slow to no cranking at times

Could be bad solenoid. Or even bad starter. Load test the battery with a carbon pile load tester set to 1/2 CCA for 15 seconds. Read voltage at the end of 15 seconds.
