    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

I keep getting sidetracked by other projects. 😏 Like sod work. 🥵 I had to use my wife's truck to haul the heavy load. o_O But we're finally done!

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

We got the old nav light off this afternoon. It's pretty rough. I'll see if it can be blasted along with the other Chief parts. Hopefully it'll clean up enough to be reused. If the chrome plating can be removed, I'll paint the Zamak that's underneath. The wire and sockets are a mess and...

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

You and me both! After all, it's been nearly 7 years since I picked up the Chief! o_O I've actually chosen dustless blasting, a combination of pressurized air, water and blast media. It's great on aluminum boats because it gives the cutting power of sandblasting but without overheating...

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Got the Chief ready for dustless blasting today. I started in the morning and did the stuff I could, then we finished after the boy got home from school. The blaster guy told me that they can get accuracy down to 1/4" and that I could leave the eyebrows and guard rails in place. Agreed! My...

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Got some good news today. Finally. 😏 Hooked the Chief up in the morning. Took the Chief over to the blaster guy this evening and we reached agreement on the dustless blast job price. Yay! 👏 I learned a fair bit about what prep work needs to be done. Not as much as I'd thought. I...

I was just going through my old original pix of the Chief. Found this. Should be interesting to see what's going on behind that silicone sealant.

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

A bit more done today and the Chief is now hooked up to the Trucklet and ready to take to the dust blaster guy. Tomorrow morning I'll give him a call and set an appointment. The windshield will definitely need to be replaced. Fortunately, I found a YouTube video that shows how it's done. 😏...

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

I have been very busy, but things are sorta/kinda starting to settle down. Maybe. So the boy and I got a little Chief work done today, with a little more to follow this week. The guy who was supposed to come over to give me a paint estimate a couple weeks ago never showed...

    Fixing Nicks In Aluminum Hull

Oh, I don't drive it up on a beach or ramp anymore. Unlike some unknown previous owner(s). Strictly dockside for me. I know that there are devices/tapes/protectors available, but I don't use them.

    Fixing Nicks In Aluminum Hull

I had the same thing on my Kingfisher and used JB WaterWeld for the repair. It's holding up well.

How Far Can an Electric Truck Tow?

I heard an interesting statistic on a business show this morning. 25% of all luxury cars being sold now are electric.

    Some good stuff happening

Today we got started on the cleanup and organizing for real. And made good progress! I spent a tidy little pile a couple days ago, getting the stuff we needed. We started by clearing all the carp out of the NW corner section. I installed some L-brackets and we got the PVC pipes and...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

I can't help with the Nautolex, but I have some experience with the t-nuts. I mounted mine the exact same way as yours. And that turned out to be a mistake. Months later, while installing the seat bolts, several of the t-nuts pulled free of the plywood underdeck backing plate and fell into...

How Far Can an Electric Truck Tow?

It's true that range could be reduced because of towing. But that's already true of ICE powered vehicles right now. If the EV market increases enough, then charging stations should become more plentiful in time. As for the decade of the 2030s, I totally agree that it'll be interesting. And I...

How Far Can an Electric Truck Tow?

I remember in the early 80s buying my first home computer. It was mostly a novelty used for resumes and whatnot. But, I kept it and kept upgrading. In a few years I was using my home computer to do actual work related stuff. Looking back, I guess I've had a computer in my home, which...
