1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I'm sure brakes were not required for that boat/trailer combination, so the manufacturer opted to keep costs down. My 4 cyl powered 1750 and trailer is in the neighborhood of 2,700 lbs. I was upgrading spindles during a repair, and came across a deal on a disc brake kit, so I now have brakes...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

No mounting plates to bolt them to. Same situation I was in. :-( I ended up replacing spindles and all because of damage on mine. I have a pair of plates if you want them. (To weld onto the existing stub shafts.)

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I have no experience with sanding galvanized surfaces. I have washed them down with vinegar, primed and painted. Done this on cars, patching rust, and it never failed. I'm not saying not to sand it. Just that I have never tried that as prep. Google it. Probably a ton of info out there. It...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Wipe galvanized surfaces liberally with white vinegar. Just soak a rag with it and get after it. Prime with Rust-Oleum rusty metal primer.

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

I'm pretty sure I blushed when I read this. Thank you for that. Stay tuned... I will be repairing a crack in the block next. I plan to use the Lock-n Stitch method. Should be fun. :)

That is allot of work, but it will pay off in peace of mind. Very commendable job.

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

The light Grey looks the most intentional, and compliments the embroidering. Red looks like you didn't know how to hide the stitching. Black might work elsewhere, but in the examples above, it seems like a miss-match. There is no other black in the design.

How to Switch to Antifreeze Cooled Engine

Be sure to test the radio. It might only tune it music from the 80s. I'd be more concerned about the wood structure; floor, stringers, transom. Everything else bolts in. BTW, I think we've strayed off topic.

How to Switch to Antifreeze Cooled Engine

OK. You'e starting to paint a picture. If I understand correctly, the sand and rust particles in a seasoned engine tend to clog the HX. I still can't help but think that a new-ish block could be cleaned well enough, but you guys are the ones with the experience.

How to Switch to Antifreeze Cooled Engine

Y'all are viscious! Why not give the OP the benefit of the doubt. A 301 is a Pontiac engine, and I have had the pleasure of owning one in a '79 Olds Delta 88 that was still running strong with 200K miles on it when I sold it. No reason to doubt that it was used in a boat that I can see. We can...

2021 Splash of the Year Runoff

Many thanks to all who took the time to consider both builds, and then cast a vote. I'm relieved that it was not another tie and I am truly flattered to have been chosen. Just to have made it to a run-off vote among several great restorations is nothing I take lightly. Great job, all of you...

why is this a GOOD idea to paint the hull where the flotation is

I agree with ShoestringMariner, and I believe that it is a very good idea. I ran into this when researching the installation of an aluminum gas tank. I read that any time you have material in close contact with bare aluminum, it can hold moisture, which causes corrosion. The solution I used...

Run off vote. Post a new vote between the two who are tied. But this time, @todhunter and I cannot vote. Give it one week. We're not going anywhere...

    Which carpet glue?

Not directly glue related, this video has some great tips such as aligning carpet grain, wrapping corners, and so on. One of my favorites.
