    Volvo Penta AQ131D getting hot

Misfiring and you will start seeing rust streaks around the head to manifold area. You might be able to inspect it with a miniature camera after slipping the rubber hose down the exhaust down pipe. There will be a hole in the divider.

    Volvo Penta AQ131D getting hot

Looks like the temperature is under control. So now you will be able to know when the system needs attention. You need to watch the exhaust manifold, there is a “cast in “ divider at the outlet, when the divider goes away from corrosion water starts getting into the #4.

Water penetration in Alpha 1 sterndrive

Just like SD posted, take a close look at the shift cable bellows with the drive raised. There is probably a small crack. If the shift cable was not replaced then the bellows is the original one.

    Volvo Penta AQ131D getting hot

The suspension fork is the vertical arms that attach the drive to the transom plate, the hose nipple is attached to it. Quite similar to the way lower control arms attach to the frame of a car. It will not be long and you will get used to the quirky way Volvo describes things. The thing about...

Volvo B20 AQ130 Water in Oil

Another source of water in the oil is the sea water pump. There is a weep hole that if it is plugged then the water ends up in the pan. So take a close look at the pump.

    Volvo Penta AQ131D getting hot

You still have to follow up on my post #18. This winter you need to replace the “O” ring below the suspension fork and the hose nipple. Your engine is still running too hot.

What is this thing on my Alpha One where a nut should be?

That is to keep midnight stern drive thieves from increasing their inventory. The p.o. Probably still has the tool to remove it.

    FUEL PUMP

You can add a Carter marine electric fuel pump along with the oil pressure safety switch. Be sure to wire it so that the pump will also operate while the engine is in cranking mode. The oil pressure switch has 3 spade connections, one of them is the pump starter by pass. The pump will only...

Alpha One Gen 2 prop shaft seal replacement

The best way to remove the threaded ring is to drill a 3/16” hole roughly 2”apart as close to he gearcase as possible then chisel it out. The tightening tool tool could be made with some 1/4” key stock welded to piece of pipe large enough to fit inside the ring then use a pipe wrench. However...

    1976 American 18 OMC 235 stringer winterizing

On both sides of the block, and on the bottom of the manifolds there may be either butterfly style drains or rubber caps held on with worm clamps. Quite often the drain cocks are stopped up with sand or dirt, you may have to remove the whole drain valve. Or blow them out with compressed air...

Alpha One Gen 2 prop shaft seal replacement

The 5 Star marine seal puller/installer kit will do the job but @ $700.00 probably not worth the investment. I had one of those when I had my shop, it was not nearly as expensive then. It did pay for itself then.

2004 Volvo Penta SX-M1 Outdrive Cracked Bellows.

You better take it apart right now. Just like SD posted. If the shaft, gimbal bearing and gimbal housing corrode together you will be spending some real $ to get it straightened out.

Dealing with bogging for too long and need help because I've done just about everything!

Does your engine have a knock sensor that controls the ignition timing? Also as AD and SD suggested have you tried monitoring the fuel pressure with the boat running as you normally use it?

    Mercruiser 3.0 12" and 14" flywheel interchangeable

If the spare couplers are the style that are triangular in shape that had 3 mounting points then they should bolt to your flywheel. The kind you cannot use are the type that bolted to the 6 crankshaft studs that mount the flywheel.

loss of power over 3500 RPMS FYI

Have you ever tried using a 6 gallon outboard tank? That will narrow down the problem to either point to the tank or the engine’s fuel system.

Buying a used boat with Mercruiser 228

Raw water cooled should indicate close to 160* or less at all rpms. With the drive down in the water in neutral, steer lock to lock and listen for drive line noise that changes.

loss of power over 3500 RPMS FYI

Another trouble area is the fine mesh screen inside the suction tube. That screen causes a lot of problems.

    Water in the Oil +

That is what it appears to be. Break out the tools. Has your engine ever had a overheating problem?

Burning ~3 quarts of oil between changes

One thing I learned about PCV valves. Years ago my son had a 86 Crown Victoria. It would belch out oil smoke from time to time. Turned out the cure was a genuine Ford PCV solved the problem. One of the mechanics at the local Ford dealer told me to try one.
