Yep, I'd replace both of those.

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

Yes, it is. Mine will be similar in overall square footage. But I'm not sure that I'll use my neighbor's contractor. The quality of the work doesn't meet my standards.

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

I went over this afternoon and had a good look. The asphalt is very thin at the edges; maybe 1/2" thick. Not good. I saw one place which had been run over from the grass to the asphalt and it was already broken/smooshed down. And that was from a single track of a GMC Tracker, a light car.

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

Duh. I forgot to hit "Post" on this last night. I'm home! 😁 And the first thing I did was to check out my neighbor's paving job, even before I went to my house. 🤓:ROFLMAO: In person, it looks much better than in the pix that I posted earlier today. This evening I took a...

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

If you look at the pix in Post #46, it looks like my neighbor's pavement was joined with a square abutment at the center. From the pic, it looks like the two outer side pieces are then sloped down toward the edges, getting thinner along the way. And at the edges, it looks like they piled up...

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

Well guys, the project came to a screeching halt this week. I'm in the hospital again. Been here 4 days. Ugh. After we got the retaining wall done last week, we took the weekend off and did fun stuff but I did order dirt to be delivered this week. That obviously didn't happen...

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

The boy and I got the retaining wall installed today, including the top cap. It took 12 hours, about 3.5 hours of which were dealing with teenage boy issues! 🙃 🤪 We started at 0830 and finished well after sunset. But it's done! Top cap going on. Finished! (And...

    16’ Starcraft restoration

1/8 wall tubing would be way overkill as a center stringer. I think the stringer in mine is only "0.060 or somewhere thereabouts. I know, right? 🤪 During my research phase, I did see a few KFs with splashwells, but they were rare. Maybe a PO removed your HIN plate? Any weird looking...

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

Today, the boy and I completed replacing all of the rotted loader hoses on my little Ford tractor. Everything has been tested and all is working normally! We're really happy about that. :D Tomorrow we're planning on taking a whack at installing the retaining wall panels. Should be an...

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

My driveway will be paved by a professional paving company, so I won't have much to do with it other than spend money. 🤑 But, I'll keep an eye on the pavement where it ends at the gate. Might be a good idea for me to install a little road cloth and some road base for a few feet outside the...

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

Today I got some good news. The eldest brother of my buddies tested negative, his symptoms cleared up and he's back to work at his regular job! Maybe he'll have time to help me in the next couple of weeks. :D He also recommended a nearby shop that makes custom hydraulic hoses while you wait...

    It certainly is!

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

And now for the bad news. My neighbor friends (brothers) have always helped me on an "as available" basis. That's why projects take so long for me. Sometimes they're not available for weeks at a time. But late last week they BOTH contracted Covid-19 and will be isolating for at least 2...

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

In the garage, ready for maintenance. As I said before, the Ford 1210 needed some TLC. Specifically, the hydraulic hoses for the loader. o_O The tractor needed all new hydraulic hoses, so the boy and I started installing them. We got 9 out of 14 hoses done in one day. A major...

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

As a result of the steel panel confusion, I had to buy more. But it was stronger and the correct length. We'll install it over the existing panels. That's 40 sheets weighing 300 pounds. I also bought top caps for the sheets which will not only provide a finished look when installed, but...

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

And that's where we are now. But! On 1 Mar 21, I got a screaming good deal on this little guy. :D I was driving down the street when it jumped in front of my truck, waving its hands up and down and screaming "Buy me!" "Buy me!" So I did! :geek: It was being sold on consignment at a local...

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

On 28 Feb 21, my buddy came over and knocked down the second pile of dirt for the turnaround area and started the grading process on the east side of the garage. The turnaround area got leveled up nicely and a ramp was started between the house and the tree (where the tractor is) so...

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

And here was the retaining wall as of 21 Feb 21. Once the steel installation is finally completed, we'll lay the geotextile stabilization cloth and start ordering in the lime rock road base. The road base and compacted asphalt will provide structural strength against the side of the steel panels.

    Installing a new asphalt driveway

Very interesting! I actually had to look up what scoria is. Neato. (y) Unfortunately, the finished asphalt depth in my installation will only be 1 5/8 inches, so a double lift probably won't happen. As I mentioned early in this thread, the project will be taking awhile. It's actually...
