    Outdrive Sealant

I can’t imagine the gimbal housing and that part of the transom see much UV. 3M does make a 4000 UV that’s UV stable if that’s a concern. A lot of times the leak forms from the through bolts rotting the transom, so either way, I doubt sealing around the gimbal housing will help much. But there...

    Rotten 1982 Beachcraft

Keelguard makes a stainless skeg guard that slips over the skeg And would be an easier repair. It looks like you have enough meat left for this to work. I had a nice chunk taken out of my skeg, so chose this method of getting it back to the stock length. It would be much safer than running the...

    Rotten 1982 Beachcraft

I love the beginning of this story and your sarcastic, whit in writing it. It looks like a fun project. Is that a 2.3L Ford with an OMC outdrive? Tell me more, tell me more!!

    Outdrive Sealant

3M 5200 Marine Sealant, Loctite PL Marine Quick cure sealant would do the job…..albeit not a permanent fix. Stay away from silicon.

    1986 thunder craft

I can’t really tell from that one pic, but it looks like the seats and floor of the bow could be molded as part of the cap. You may have to separate the cap from the lower tub to get all the rotted wood replaced in the bow. It does look similar to my chap in design though. If that’s the case...

Sewing thread recommendations for a class 15 machine

Basting tape is a must in this type of work in my opinion. It creates a waterproof stitch.

Water in bilge? Bilge pump runs too often.

Blue tooth bore scopes are fairly cheap and very handy. You can use this to snake around the transom looking for the leak. Also, check your shift cable bellows. Like Scott stated, silicon shouldn’t be surrounding the outdrive. This alone would cause me to suspect a transom issue. Silicon is good...

    1986 thunder craft

As you read through these threads and check out the stickies, I’m sure you’ve come to see that a 1986 boat will most likely be completely rotted to the core. Take lots of measurements before cutting anything. Try to save as many pieces for templates as possible. The floor will continue all the...

Sewing thread recommendations for a class 15 machine

Honestly I won’t go anywhere else for material and thread than sailrite. I completed both mooring covers on my Chap with a home type Singer using their products. Their help and tutorials are priceless. I intend on buying their ultra feed machine soon and starting upholstery work as soon as this...

Grinding on hull for floor replacement

Some grind it down smooth, some leave that lip and tab into that. As long as you grind down to the pink clean fiberglass, you’re good to go. I personally ground mine smooth.

    3M vs Starbrite

I’ve only used the 5200 and it works perfectly. Not sure i’d trust anything else.

Water in bilge? Bilge pump runs too often.

If it’s not getting water in the bilge when running on muffs, then I would suspect the transom as well. I will say that my buddy had a Rinker with through the hull exhaust, and that thing leaked like crazy by the exhaust.

I’ve used the rust oleum marine paint with their grip additive and it worked awesome in a Bayliner I restored.

1977 Crestliner Muskie 7**, Outboat Restore Project

The stringers should always be bedded with something, otherwise pockets under the stringer will flex in some spots, and will be hard in other spots. As you can imagine any voids will attract water, as in condensation or that being the lowest point and will start the rot cycle. Using PL is fine...

I used the 4lb foam too. I wanted the extra structure since my Chap doesn’t have much under the deck.
