The Chesapeake Bay is ok for Rockfish, (strippers). It certainly was better years ago. VA put a moratorium on strippers and MD has tightened the regs, but we still catch a few every year. Have been out recently doing some bow fishing for cownosed ray. Now that is a fun time!!!

It really is amazing how much structure that foam provides. I really believe that’s why boats like mine didn’t have much of a stringer system.

Removing nuts and bolts frozen from saltwater

It really depends on how bad they are, size, how long they’ve been seized, and location. Heating the nut can help loosen the threads since both metals will expand at different rates. Brake fluid is a pretty good catalyst. Sometimes it’s just best to cut your losses and use a nut splitter...

    Any home brewers out there?

Sounds like the yeast was more of a wine yeast than it was a beer yeast....you were probably making vinegar instead of beer, lol. If I had to guess, I’d say something was not sanitized properly. Sanitization is definitely THE most important thing when brewing beer.

    Any home brewers out there?

LOL, trust me I get it. Some folks don’t like the additions of fruit. I brew an American brown ale that doesn’t have the fruit. There are as many types of beer meeting the Bavarian purity list as there brewers out there, some hoppy, some grainy, some malty, some dark, some light. I find orange...

Never been up the C&D Canal, but used to go fishing with my Grandfather in the Delaware Bay. He slipped his boat just outside of Wildwood NJ at a campground. He’s a NE Philadelphia native, so that part of NJ was an escape to get outa that city. He worked for Fairmont Park. He would boat the Bay...

Cold weather won’t hurt the bare hull. Just make sure it’s fully supported on a cradle or a bunk type trailer and keep it dry. You definitely don’t want water getting in it, then freezing.

    Any home brewers out there?

I started home brewing a few years ago and have really enjoyed the challenge and honestly the chemistry. I have always loved creating stuff with my hands, and bringing a same philosophy of independence to the dinner table by way of hunting, fishing, butchering and canning. Brewing beer just...

Free Boat, This thing is a badboy!

Close to 5/8”, so once encapsulated it’ll be very strong.

More advice.....1708 would be a real PITA to get to lay down over the top of a stringer, and is really not necessary. Save the 1708 for the tabbing. CSM should be used for this since the goal is to waterproof, not build bulk or strength. @tpenfield gave me an idea that really worked well and...

No need to use CSM before you use 1708. I use the CSM when I want to encapsulate and don’t necessarily need strength or build thickness. An example would be using CSM to waterproof your deck. I use 1708 for tabbing and building the thickness in the transom. A single layer of CSM will be plenty...
