Low RPM on a new outboard...All suggestions welcome

If a new 60 hp CT gearcase diameter is bigger than a 24 year old bigfoot gearcase, the old prop won't work. It will ventilate due to exhaust gas around the prop.

    curious

I put these oval aluminum anodes on the toons this early spring . The mercury outboard has factory installed aluminum anodes also. I've owned the boat for almost 7 years. It has always been operated in fresh water, river and lakes. I've never had any marine growth until now and I didn't think...

    Freshwater Boat to Saltwater

there are a lot of aluminum marine anodes on amazon. A lot. Tohatsu doesn't come up specifically but with all the various shapes and sizes you might find some that would work. Got mine there for my toons. Speaking of toons, I'm curious what "succumbed" for your pontoons meant. what happened...

    Check those wheel bearings . . .

I have a '01, tandem karavan trailer. Karavan made me a new axle few years ago as a spindle was messed up on the one axle. Karavan calls their system Sure lube but it is the same principle as EZ lube. The original axle has the zerk in the center, the new axle has the zerk off center. I don't...

    Reliable sure lube hubs

Is there some mis-information here in this thread? I have a Karavan trailer. Karavan calls their system the Sure-lube system. Other trailer manufacturers use the same system? Pull off the rubber plug, pump grease into the grease nipple until old grease starts coming out. Grease flows from the...

    hp. for pontoons

I have a 24', 2006 Lowe pontoon. It has 25" twin tubes. The max hp placard rating is 115hp. Being an '06, I accept that to mean a 4 stroke motor is acceptable. It is also rated to 12 people. The boat came with a merc 60hp, 4 stroke, Big Foot (CT). By myself, on an ideal, chilly day, I could push...

    Chaparral Mercruiser Prop Question

"3. Tried a Quicksilver 4-blade aluminum 14" 17 pitch, and my WOT jumped to 5400 and my top speed was barely 40 mph. Hole shot was good, but it was over revving." I reread all your posts: Was this when you were loaded up?...If not, then that prop just might work for you when you are loaded...

    Chaparral Mercruiser Prop Question

what year/model boat. are you overloading the boat? Then expecting great performance? 8 passengers +pulling tubes?. As an example, I propped my pontoon to get a little over the max rpm when by myself so that when loaded with two tubes pulling 5 teens, and 4 adults, I could pull fast enough to...

Might this work as a backup?

these are figures derived from 3 props I've used on my pontoon. It is a 24', twin tube (25") suncruiser with a '21 merc. 115 hp CT. Maybe this can give you an idea of what "propping " is all about. Diameter, pitch, blades all matter along with cupping, material, etc. as all mentioned above. It...

Lake depth and how shallow can you run?

I don't think you're asking for trouble. But I/we can see the bottom of the hull where it disappears behind the left bunk. I can tell it runs parallel to the bunk and by "extending " that line out , it shows your hull is about 1-11/2 " above the cavitation plate. so, since you asked about...

    Help with prop?

no...you are overpropped as stated. to increase rpm you reduce pitch, or diameter, or # of blades. yes, diameter plays as much a role as pitch. So, you go to an 11x8....or 11 1/4x8...maybe get 5600-5700 max rpm, maybe more...might be less... see what happens.....but you want to be no less than...

    Help with prop?

you understand that you are 500 rpm below the minimum of 5500. You are lugging your motor.
