Joined the Starmada. kind of unexpectedly

This weekend I’m hoping to have the engine running on muffs, and ready to launch next weekend for a test in a local reservoir. I need to wire the bilge pumps and blowers because I won’t go without them unless the boat never leaves the trailer. Hook up the steering and hook up the cables and...

    Mercontrol cables

I thought so. I’ll have to put the outdrive on and see what is up. I was going to swap motors to the better one I just bought but I think I’m going to see what this one will do

    Mercontrol cables

Does the cable end from the MC1 upper shift cable need replaced with an Alpha variant? It seems like it’s too long. The leg isn’t on yet so I know it can’t be adjusted yet The cable ends to the parts boat are pinned

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

It’ll run again. Dry it off, fresh fuel. If you got spark it’ll run.. if you can’t get it to run. Flood the thing with 2 stroke oil. Buy a little time.. the starter will be dry enough by the time your ready to spin it over

Need advice on 1989 4 HP Johnson

Clamp on a rubber hose as tight as you possibly can. Use bellows adhesive if you need to. Slide the slide hammer into the rubber hose, butt it to the driveshaft and tighten it with clamps as well.. this will result in a 0% chance of damage to the shaft and a very good chance of working. It’s...

    Renting A Boat

I think renting a boat exempts the safety class. Not that anyone should avoid that class however.. you see it on posts on the NY boater law complaining because renters are exempt, ignoring the fact the course can be obtained free of charge from boatUS

    Mercontrol cables

I do kinda remember needing to push 2 buttons on my dad’s old Chief. I tried pushing the top 2 buttons remembering that but nothing happened. The wiring to the panel has been butchered and repaired like most have. Being it’s over 50 years old now

    Mercontrol cables

What was the purpose of the 3rd button on the old trim control panels? I’ve only got “IN” working. The other 2 buttons are dead. I’ve got new momentary switches coming to give it a new look and life. Trying to figure out how to wire it.. I’m not bothering with trim switches in the outdrive...

    Mercontrol cables

My work daily car blew its left rear coil spring out the back over a bump yesterday. It’s been Carrying an outdrive and a few other things for a couple weeks…. Parts ran up to $200, so I opted to just buy a NOS face cam for the old Mercontrol and see what it’ll do. From what I gather; the face...

Mercruiser 3.0 stalls at 1000-1500 rpm.

Sounds like a problem with the shift interrupter until you mention the carb spray. I wouldn’t rule it out. Or the idle adjustment on the carb

Joined the Starmada. kind of unexpectedly

Dug my old thread up since this has now turned into a full blown project. But gaining Alpha gen 1 from ‘86 out of a four winns parts boat.. engine is out of same, but I have a better one in an ‘88 Regal. Both 140hp 3.0L… steering is a new kit. The old cable wouldn’t come off the original...

    Mercontrol cables

Is there a chance my upper shift and throttle are switched causing the fast idle lever to raise itself? My dad hooked up the cables while I operated the controls. But with the controls being sloppy. Idk if those could be swapped

    Fresh Mercruiser swap. No power

I just transferred the gauges/ harness into the boats original dash panel. The 4 Winns panel had the fuses wired into the volt meter stud. Can I run a wire from that stud to a blue sea systems fuse box? The old system ran power to the fuse box ( old style ) from the back of the boat. A LOT...

Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

Spent today swapping over the gauges. I don't have a picture but the gauges from the 4 Winns ( original parts boat ) kinda fit the old Mercruiser dash panel. They are the correct size except the original gauges were flush mount, and the new gauges are clamp in. So they fit tight against each...

The rear main seal. The crankshafts have a different bolt pattern, and your old OMC can only bolt up to the old stuff

Engine Swap 1979OMC with 3.0L Quicksilver

You can fit up to a 1990 Mercruiser, OMC or Volvo 3.0L wit the correct exhaust manifold.. stringer was never used behind a one peice rear main so 1991 and after one piece engines are out… the engine itself is just a fork lift engine To convert to mercruiser, is a whole can of beans
