Push rod cover gasket replacement and distributor

Hi all. I want to replace the gasket on the push rod cover as it appears there is oil leaking from there. It appears I need to remove the distributor to get the cover out. Can anyone guide me through this so I don't screw up the timing? thanks in advance.

Purpose of spacer on Mercruiser 140, front engine mount,

Thanks for the reply! I figured that the spacer firmly connects the bolt to the mount so that the motor doesn't bounce up and down on the bolt (#27). The only way that one could get it firm would be, as you say, to tighten it so much that it presses up against the arm, defeating the absorption...

Purpose of spacer on Mercruiser 140, front engine mount,

Hi all, Decided to replace all engine mounts on my 1978 Merc 140. i noticed the front spacer, part number 23-36101, (see pic) was missing. We've been running it like this for probably 20 hours. Apparantly not made anymore, can only find one on ebay. Can anyone tell me how vital this part is? I...

Hydraulic Pump Wiring (black wire floating free)

Well I connected the ground wire to a good ground, hasn’t changed anything! Not gonna trim sender switch as I read it’s a pain an not worth it. Just remember not to raise motor too high when running

Hydraulic Pump Wiring (black wire floating free)

Here is how I understand the trim should work. IN button lowers leg all the way down. UP/OUT will only raise leg to a limited height. UP and UP/OUT buttons are pressed simultaneously to raise leg to trailering position. My setup works as such EXCEPT the pressing of only the UP/OUT button does...

Hydraulic Pump Wiring (black wire floating free)

I figured it had to be a ground because 1) it’s so shirt it in reaches screws that could be a ground 2) In diagrams the black is ground. What got me confused was the arcing of that wire, I must made contact somewhere. Also can’t figure out why UP/OUT button does nothing. Trailer function works...

Hydraulic Pump Wiring (black wire floating free)

I have a 1977 Mercruiser and, what I think, is a single solenoid, hydraulic pump. There are three wires coming off the pump, two yellows and one black, as seen in the photo. The two yellows are connected but the black is floating free. While trying to reach the grease nipple for the steering...

Should exhaust be venting around gimbal?

I have a Mercury 3.0 with an alpha, one gen one sterndrive. The exhaust bellows has been replaced by an exhaust tube. I tried to post videos but couldn’t. But the exhaust seems to be venting around the gimbal housing, at idle or full speed. Shouldn’t it be venting out the two small holes on the...

Exhaust tube length for Mercruiser 140?

Hello all! First time poster. My '78 Mercruiser 140, engine serial #3773776, has an exhaust tube. With the leg all the way down, the tube is about 1/2" away from the exhaust pipe on the stern. Should the tube be over the exhaust pipe? I can't find any information on whether there are different...
