very cool carb and intake manifold causing moisture

Absolutely, that's why most air cooled piston driven planes have carb heaters otherwise the carb gets choked down with ice and the engine stalls.

port side exhaust elbow over heating.

If it did make it into the drive is there anything it could damage? I have a nice few months coming up and would like to use the boat a bit. I don't mind pulling the drive but being that the boat lives in a lift the biggest hassle for me is getting to the ramp 10 miles away,on the trailer , and...

very cool carb and intake manifold causing moisture

The straight gas will help a lot, temps can drop as much as 70f degrees in the venturi where the fuel is mixed with air, add a bit of alcohol and it can get even colder so even if ambient temperature is 100f you can still get icing.

port side exhaust elbow over heating.

I just finished installing a new elbow, I did find the shutter down in the Y pipe with the help of a shop vac but not the hinge pin. I'll take the exhaust bellows off but don't really expect to find it. No way of knowing how long ago it dislocated so if I don't find it there I'll get on and hope...

very cool carb and intake manifold causing moisture

If the ambient temperature was around 75f and humidity was high it's quite possible you experienced icing. It's common in air cooled engines but can occur in any naturally aspirated motor..

very cool carb and intake manifold causing moisture

I had a motorcycle that came with a carb heater just for that reason. Your carb is probably icing up.

Yep I hear you. Time has snuck up on me as well, this boat has been in fresh water for the last 10 years as far as I know, before that I don't. I'm just gonna do my best to keep it going, when it becomes too much I will let you have it! LOL. and get myself a small one.

port side exhaust elbow over heating.

Yep between your warning and my curiosity I'm glad I didn't wait until winter. This side had no shutters in it. When I changed bellows in the drive last year I didn't see anything in the exhaust port but didn't really look for anything either. Hard to know what happened in the past, they may...

port side exhaust elbow over heating.

I pulled the starboard elbow today instead of waiting and I'm glad I did. It's worse than the other was.

Ok, I thought you were looking for the tool. I don't recall seeing anything on the bearing, but will pass it on if I run into it.

Yes in my limited experience a manifold will hold water unless you pull the drain plug.

Figuring out AWG cable size for Dual Battery & wiring?

Again, it's your choice, I was going for weight balance, It may not affect you, your boat's bigger..LOL ..

Figuring out AWG cable size for Dual Battery & wiring?

I suppose that would depend on the location of the 2nd battery. I put my 2nd battery opposite the 1st battery in the stern so it was a shorter run to the motor than tying to the negative post of the first.. but no reason you can't.

So your saying you have thru hull drains that are under water and no valves on them. I don't even think that's legal.
