    1981 Springbok 18' Restoration/Renovation

I'm gonna have to remember that as I've been looking for...umm...economical boats for my sons to use and some are closed bow Starcrafts which are just begging to be opened up. I was curious about how to finish off the cut edge and that just answered the question for me.

    Nobody fishing?

PT and meds. ACL reconstruction here and mom had her knee replaced. Made a rod holder to keep the poles organized over the winter. Need to do a quick sand then paint to seal the wood. Will grab a pic when its done. All it cost me was the 9 pole holder off ebay $24 + tax as all the wood was...

Have enough HP for hole-shot ?

You can always feather the throttle when out on the water, however you cannot add HP/torque. I would always opt for the largest engine possible for the given hull. There are obvious exceptions...such as HP limited lakes.

    The End

Called the marina and will be dropping it off Halloween morning as they're taking all comers. At least it gets out of my yard for the kids to trick or treat. Admiral and I already agreed we'd use the boat more next season - won't say we used a whopping tank of gas this year. In all my years of...

I just bought a 2025 Bayliner VR5 with the 200hp 4.5L Mercruiser, BARELY pulls me up slalom

That's a fairly heavy boat for only 200HP. Published specs were ~3300lbs dry and with that load, you may be at the very end of what that boat as configured can do. The extra 50 ponies might have been worth the upcharge in this instance. I mention that as my current boat has only 180HP and with...

BRP Selling many of its marine assets

From what I've read, BRP killed off Evinrude, no longer exists. Only thing that they make beyond the boats is the wonderful "underboard" Stealth engine with its highly complex bailing system and poor performance. In a nutshell, this is all self-inflicted. What exactly they're selling remains...

    The End

Emptied contents of mine yesterday. Opened the single point drain on the block as its supposed to get near freezing at the end of the week. Gotta get ahold of the marina to get into the queue. Also need to get some vermin repellent as storage location has had a mouse problem...

    Rain needed

I'd say we're down about a foot from normal...maybe two. Hard to tell for sure but I can tell where normal water level is vs where we are right now. I'm going off what I see in parts of the Erie Canal and local streams/rivers nearby.

    winter cover

They can put a door into the shrink wrap for winter access. Seen it several times here in WNY on larger boats such as yours. Mine...I pay for shrink wrap as covers/supports/tarps won't make it through a wet snow storm.

    Transom question

Composite materials like what you are describing are bendy....really bendy... Great for decks but no structural rigidity. Wouldn't use it for this application.

    Help!!

Should be a capacity plate which indicates max hp. At least on typical outboard boats there is.

    Old Cobia?

My hunch is that it held decorative trim, such as wood, for mounting whatever. Given the amount of mulch on the deck, that "trim" long rotted away. My gut tells me that is a total gut and restore - stringers, floor, transom, etc. Fixing it won't be cheap, it will be itchy, it will expand your...

Cant get new boat to plan out

Hours 4-10 from the Suzuki page I linked to earlier. And only for up to 5 min after its warm.

Cant get new boat to plan out

A reputable dealer would offer to take you out in the boat to go over all the features. Especially after taking it back with the planing issues the first go round. IF this were me, I'd be reaching out to Suzuki to see what their Customer Service dept has to say. I'd also be in contact with...

    1970 Astro

Looks to me as if a carpenter got ahold of the boat and trimmed it out with a ton of wood accents.

Cant get new boat to plan out

From the manufacturer... https://blog.suzukimarine.co.za/how-to-break-in-your-new-suzuki-outboard-motor So unless you have completed the break in process, and trust me it's annoying as all heck having to do it - btdt, stop going full tilt. You're asking for problems. Once broken in, I trim...

    Covid!

Once you feel well enough, be very careful and thoughtful of what you do. A simple shower wiped me out for 3 hours afterwards. Simple tasks like sweeping leaves off the boat cover left me gasping for air.

    restoring documentation

Try salvage yards. Barring that, might have to have a welder fabricate something for you. Radiator shops can TIG weld aluminum.

So...what you're saying is that Lt. Dan might actually make it out of this alive? https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/internet/lieutenant-dan-tampa-florida-hurricane-milton-boat-mayor-cam-gofundme-rcna174647
