    handheld vs fixed mount VHF

I wonder if some fire/ EMS is VHF? This truck I worked on did have firefighter gear in it I'm at least 35 miles from any nautical transmission. Would it be safe to test at my house to make sure transmit does not trip the circuit breaker? To cut down on wiring on this tiny boat, I ran a leg...

    handheld vs fixed mount VHF

I ended up getting a Uniden 385 and a 3' antenne with a ratchet mount.. Both lakes have USCG stations, so they at least will monitor it. I'm really curious as to why people put marine VHF's in vehicles.. When I was browsing used, I found a few that were said to be removed from trucks. And at...

898 mercruser sterndrive install new pertonix distributor

If the pertronix is not getting full 12v, then they fry, if you leave the ignition on a pertronix ignitior ( not ignitor II ) they fry. I think your problem is lack of voltage though. points use a resistor for 6-9v, and that left in will fry the pertronix. Needs full 12v to operate

    25 Honda vs 80s

your good.. Something like the classic 50 Merc weigh's ~250 lbs.. 25hp Honda shows to be about 230 lbs so, exactly the same but with half the output. Unless your sold on 4 stroke or have the motor. I'd look into a 2cyl 20-35hp OMC manufactured engine.. Light weight, simple but powerful. Going...

    Lowrance X51 Pro

My boat came with an X51 Pro fish finder, and it does turn on and seem to work. I know it's not THAT old, having been last sold in about 2018.. Is this unit worthy enough to use? Garmin Stryker 4 catches my eye but the screen is smaller. GPS is a plus though. Not really sure I need tandem...

Oil fired boiler....Is the block replaceable?

welding cast iron, you need nickle rods, and pre heat, and slow cool down. Anything less than perfect conditions and you'll end up with more cracks

    19?? Starcraft Jetstar

yeah if you have them. I had seat #1 off the frame multiple times, putting the brackets in different spots, trying different things and the lounger supports would hit and it would not close... Right now, they are strapped togther with metal strapping inside, between the bolts.

    19?? Starcraft Jetstar

Installed 2 of Wise's finest ( cheapest ) b2b loungers. Actually got these because they are the only loungers with an 8" base. The instructions are horrible, and I could not get them to work as loungers, so I modded them into a fixed position

MerCruiser 3.0 to Omc 4.3 swop

You don't want to swap a Mercruiser for a Cobra. You'll hate yourself. Find another 2.5L or 3.0L and keep going. 4.3L will take different everything pretty much. Transom plate stays the same, and you can use the leg from a 3.7L boat if yours is an Alpha Gen 1 or M/R but the majority of...

Great time to sell a used boat.

I have toyed with the idea of selling my big boat, knowing I probably won't use it this year and I can make a little money on it, but I'll keep it for now. I did overspend on my 14' SC Holiday, giving $1,600 for it when I know a year or 2 ago it would have been a $500 boat. I still spent about...

    1965 Starcraft Holiday Motor Upgrades

Self tuning 2 and 4bbl replacements that are universal.. problem is the oxygen sensor will never last long enough to get a good tune in... This is the kind of thing I was suggesting the op not do.. you can find videos on youtube of people trying to work them out.and the hotrodder blood suggests...

    1965 Starcraft Holiday Motor Upgrades

I'm talking about all aftermarket components, which I think the OP is suggesting. The ignition boxes were on vehicles with wheels. 2 MSD's which failed in months, and a Summit box that failed in 2 weeks time. People seem to have similar experience when they run the same type of boxes on the...

WATER CAME DRIPPING OUT. Is it time to donate it?

They are the same engine actually. You can go up to 1992 or 3 in a truck application ( Not S10 unless you swap cams ). just add marine head gaskets, water pump and core plugs. You can go newer with more swapping of stuff.. But make sure the boat is actually worth it first. Deck/ transom/ stringers

How long to wait for a materials delivery contractor to return a call?

I'm very lucky to be friends with a do- all company and they can haul any product I need. See the owner or his employee every week at my work.. Couple days lead time usually, put wherever I want it.. The funny thing about it is, they are primarily a septic service, but end up hauling material...

WATER CAME DRIPPING OUT. Is it time to donate it?

Take a free boat as the value of the trailer it's sitting on, minus the dump fee's unless it's got stuff in it you need. I got a free boat 2 years ago, and cut out probably $500 worth of parts for the boat I'm building + the nearly new trailer it had

    1965 Starcraft Holiday Motor Upgrades

I've had more than a few CDI ignition boxes fail where I had to bypass it to get home, and petronix will fail if you leave the key on too long.. I mean an extra brand new pertronix kit in a glove box or whatever, it wouldn't be a bad system as it does operate more accurately then points, but...

    19?? Starcraft Jetstar

The control panel in the dash for ignition and choke are for this era motor and the dash board construction looks like it's original. I'm positive it's an OEM OMC control panel. If it's had more than one motor, it's always been an Evinrude/ Johnson.. I do see newer Holiday 14's having the same...
