    Exhaust bellows ripped

there is another option to the bellows, Mercrusiers can also use a two piece tube in place of the bellows. There is a discussion here https://forums.iboats.com/threads/mercruiser-exhaust-tube-vs-bellows.182774/ being a two piece, it doesnt fully seal all exhaust gases going through it, but...

    Exhaust bellows ripped

could have been sitting on a shelf for ages before it got to you. My aftermarket bellows I put on last year are already showing signs of checking, so will be watched like a hawk, and replaced if they get any worse. The exhaust IIRC isnt as critical as the u-joint bellows as the y-pipe goes well...

97 SeaRay 175 project boat hull weeping question

that ought to work. In a pinch I have used the stuff from WallyWorld or the auto parts store. As long as you get enough layers, it will work just fine.

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

good deal. At least with a marine engine heat cycling isnt as much of an issue. unless something goes wrong, 150-160 is about all it will see which should keep expansion/contraction to a minimum and not stress the pins. otherwise, I am with Danforth..... rotten boat donor motor, and swap it out...

does this prop seem "reasonable" for this combination?

its fiberglass. good to know a 17 isnt out in left field somewhere...... as for the existing prop, well, if I were to take it to a prop shop, the least of their concerns would be the pitch...... its shall we say a bit "rough" around the edges.... Methinks the previous owner either liked to make...

    Trouble getting tags for trailer

Never heard of needing last registration, unless they are going to try and ding you for fees from the last time it was registered..... Ive even gone in and had to do a bonded title on a trailer that came with a boat, and the trailer had no title. Still a fairly easy process to do. For the...

does this prop seem "reasonable" for this combination?

not trying to fix an issue per se, but see if what I have is "reasonable" given the combination that I have. Boat is a 1980 vintage 16' vhull bowrider with a Mercruiser 120 engine, MC-1 drive (1.98 ratio?) prop that is on the boat is unmarked in any way that I can find (nothing under the mount...

97 SeaRay 175 project boat hull weeping question

pulling the cap sounds worse than it really is. Drill out the rivets holding on the rub rail, and then get a friend or two to help lift it off. Support it on sawhorses (even if its outside, just throw a tarp over it) and you have full access to the interior of the boat. Trying to work around it...

    Finally back on the water

first a bit of backstory. Bought a boat just over a year ago now that was a known project. Hadnt been on the water for about a decade, the interior was shot, and as it turns out so was the floor. Core samples on the transom and stringers came back good, foam tested as drier than a popcorn fart...

Well it happened. Water in oil

mine is a couple years older than yours (1980), and my water in the oil issue was the exhaust riser elbow rotted out, and it came in through the exhaust. Simple fix, if your manifold is still original, It may be somewhere to look, and isnt a catastrophic issue to change, just a PITA with the...

97 SeaRay 175 project boat hull weeping question

as you get lower, the foam will be wet (and damn heavy) BTDT. As for structure, I cant really say. I wouldnt be opposed to putting some wood in it (properly glassed of course), but I would need to see what there is for structure under whats left of the floor and foam. Never done one with no form...

97 SeaRay 175 project boat hull weeping question

sounds like you have/had a leak somewhere, and now have a LOT of waterlogged foam to remove/replace. From your pic above, there appears to be moisture inside the test area where you cut the floor. If there is any wood in the structure, its probably mulch by now. Unfortunately foam also retains...

What reason causes the engine milky oil?

milky oil has water in it. Could be coming from any number of sources. Budget could be from a couple of hundred for a cracked/worn out exhaust manifold to thousands of dollars if the block is cracked from a poor/nonexistant winterization and the engine freezing. Owner will need to figure out...

    Quicksilver 5W30 for all sterndrives

my guess, is that the change, much like with autos is emissions related. Thinner oils contribute (minutely) to lower emissions due to less parasitic and pumping losses...... they dont care about longevity as long as it makes it past the warranty period, but with the EPA up everyones ass about...

15W-40 oil is it multi purpose?

the 15w-40 "diesel" oil is good in many things. I use it in the boat, and also in my motorcycle with a wet clutch. It has the zinc in there that many of the old engines need, and no excess friction modifiers to mess with wet clutches.
