    Clam shell thru hull leak

Re: Clam shell thru hull leak I think what you're describing is this kind of steering: If that's the case, your first problem is the "ball" - that mug ain't supposed to be wood! If you don't have the original cable with the brass ball (and can't find one), you have to buy an adapter kit with...

    tru course steering question

Re: tru course steering question My first place to start would be at the swivel. I think it's the same on the 800, but I might be wrong. On the front of the drive you should see a plastic "nut" ... remove that (it's a cover essentially) and there are two fittings to grease. That might help...

How can you tell what model and make of stringer drive you have?

Re: How can you tell what model and make of stringer drive you have? You probably have a '71 Electric Shift, much like mine ('72): That boot is THIS one (I think - haven't had to change mine yet, but the screw count and years are right).

Official Business of the 3V Club ( aka tri hull club )

Re: Official Business of the 3V Club ( aka tri hull club ) Hey everyone: I'm a Johnny-come-lately to the club, and wasn't around when the stickers were being produced. However, my day job is as a designer - so, I thought I'd offer to give the sticker a little more "zing." I stayed with the...

    Favorite Tennessee Waters

Hey Y'all: Where's your favorite place to boat in Tennessee? There are bunch of great places to go, and I'm convinced that even on the waters I know relatively well there are things I'm missing. I'm near Nashville, so I know Percy Priest Lake (mostly the southeast end), and I've been in...

Stringer may be overheating & a lube question

Took the boat out this weekend after a long hiatus from the water (she was in the shop for about 6 weeks and came out more broke than she went in - long story), and found out a few things that are probably not working right. I just need a little help understanding what I'm doing. At WOT we...

Started the 2011 Season a bit late ...

It took most of the summer to get out on the water. I had some outdrive problems, put the boat in the shop - it was in the shop for 6 weeks and came out more broke than it went in - plus a bunch of traveling I had to do this summer. Anyway, got most if it all fixed finally this week (big...

    Remove Tru Course Steering

I have purchased a replacement drive for my '72 OMC 165 Electric shift. What I'm up against (new lesson learned) is that this drive is a tru-course steering drive, and my rig was set up for the through transom arm with the big brass ball (attaches outside the exhaust housing). If I look at my...

    Type C gear lube

Shaking the Magic 8 Ball here ... Am I correct in understanding that the upper gearcase on a '72 electric shift stringer (165 HP) does not need Type C gear oil? I have been using Type C in both, but recently heard that the upper doesn't need it. I have to order that stuff from iBoats, and if...

    1997 Bayliner 3.0 Mercruiser

Hey all- On vacation and I'm going to be taking a look at my Dad's '97 Bayliner. The inline 4 Merc I/O (135 hp 3.0L, I think) is not idling. It will run if you give it some throttle, but it won't idle - don't know RPM's yet. Fuel flow is supposedly good, and airflow is supposedly good. Any...

    Question about OMC 165 upper

I need some help understanding something about my upper. Here are some details: Boat: 1972 Silverline Comoro Tri-Hull Engine: 1972 OMC 165 (Chevy inline 6 250) Drive: 1972 OMC Electric Shift Stringer Mechanic: 1970 model - "iffy" at his best I've been dealing with an issue all summer...

    Remove the Whale Tail!

I'm looking at removing the hydrofoil from my stern drive (it was on there when I bought the boat). But, I'm unsure of how to treat the remaining holes where the cavitation plate was drilled to attached the foils. Do I need to worry about the holes? Thanks in advance for the advice.

    omc tilt motor

Re: omc tilt motor Just dealt with mine this year, but I was able to have the tilt motor rebuilt. I have a '72 Electric Shift and the second link wouldn't work - definitely the first link. The way it assembles is running the bolt shaft all the way through the motor into the housing - it's a...
