Only 2 9ft stringers on the whole boat? Need to add more?

You are so right matt167. I looked up USCG rule started in 1972. Anything is allowed as you stated. Insanity for safety of inboard engine powered boats ? Insurance companies accept 800 hp crate engines ?

Whatever pieces of plywood you cut to a final shape. To be installed in the boat. COAT ALL surfaces with a thin coating of just liquid glass mixture. All surfaces out of sight WILL get wet from water as it get into each compartment. Remember to cut a BIG DRAIN hole on the very bottom of each...

1 last test to do will define where to go next. You have the lower carb in decent running . Swap the top and bottom carburetors. If the trouble follows the carburetor. done. If NO CHANGE ? Do racerone procedure. The problem is then a internal one.

Engine dies suddenly after a few minutes & won't restart

My old brain just remembered a sneaky source of erratic shutdowns and engine cranking but no ignition running. Engine was a 2002 Mercruiser 5.0L 220hp V8. I found out by trial and error. That the engine would continue to run as long as I held the key in the full STARTER position. I then quickly...

Engine dies suddenly after a few minutes & won't restart

I like your logic on the safety switches. Boat is old enough for them to get erratic. With engine running. GENTILY tap the switches from different angles for the problem to occur. (y)

Lanyard to disable engine when operator leaves the helm

The sad / dangerous thing about freighter waves in shallow bays ? You can turn away from the coming wave. BUT What do you do as you approach the shore line or docked boats ? The white capped biggie is still coming after you. I now pick bays with a breakwater or a sticking out shoreline to...

Engine dies suddenly after a few minutes & won't restart

That 0 volts is critical to me. I would be after a loose connection. Is the starter motor cranking very strongly all the time with no engine sputters ? I would check that fuel is being getting into the cylinders. If yes ? Your o volts is most important. Gently pull on each low voltage wine...

Only 2 9ft stringers on the whole boat? Need to add more?

Solid lengths of wood can be very erratic in strength. Due to many changes in the grain patterns. But plywood is difficult to use as wood for engine mounting beams. Some boats just screw in bolts with wood screws on 1 end. And Machine bolt threads on the other end

    40hp Dead Top Cylinder

Can we all read post # 11 again ? His first sentence is critical that there is no suction available. No suction in is no fuel drawn into the combustion chamber. As racerone stated. Compression should be about 140 # Both cylinders are way down. The top cylinder being the lowest compression.

Lanyard to disable engine when operator leaves the helm

I did not see the wake from a long passed by freighter. It jumps up as the pressure wave from the freighter hits the shallow ledge of the bay. I now call it the Tsunami Effect from big freighters. I had a similar wave at another bay near Clayton. was doing 30 ? mph with wife. The tallest wave...

Then why are they put in 2 stroke engines ? Why are they called Reed Valves ? Valves left open in a 4 stroke would cause a problem. Why would broken / defective Reed Valves not cause a problem ?

Lanyard to disable engine when operator leaves the helm

Time for another sea story. 1st week with my brand new 2002 Chaparral 186 with the 200 hp V 8. Doing the first WOT with the hand held GPS. I am running in the Clayton, N Y bay all alone. At 50 mph watching The GPS as I head out of the shallow bay towards the main channel. Looking good. As I am...
