1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I winterized the boat last weekend. We wanted to do a fall leaf tour of the gorge, but my truck's transmission died 2 weeks ago, so no more boat hauling till that's fixed. Since the drive is off, I went ahead and started fixing the places where the whale tail broke off. This is what I started...

Yes, I replaced my mid floor....and the rest of my floor, and stringers and transom. LOTS of pics on the link in my signature. Just be prepared for a full gut & restore.

    1990 Bayliner 2651 resto

I used a drill press to drill a guide hole in a piece of 3/4" plywood, then clamped that to the transom and used that to help drill straight. It wasn't perfect, I still had to waller out a couple holes just a little. For the steering relief, I just used a 1" drum sander on a 90-degree angle...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

I'm not sure if mine was a bad install from the PO, if I hit something small with mine, or if it's just the risk you take running a whale tail, but one side of mine broke off this summer and took a chunk of the cavitation plate with it. I'm going to weld in new aluminum plate where it chunked out.

Water penetration in Alpha 1 sterndrive

Correct. The transom seal keeps water from going between the sterndrive assembly and the transom - it's a foam rubber seal. The bellows is what keeps water from getting through the bell housing. There are two bellows - a small one for the shift cable and a large one for the driveshaft. Make...

Alpha 1 Gen 2 Gimbal Ring

I agree - if no play, I'd run it. I mean, no harm if you do replace it...other than to your wallet.

    88 Capri Restoration (Splashed 08/2022)

It was a good season for us, Jim. We got out almost every weekend from April - September. I had a rocky start with 3 break downs requiring a rescue, but adding the fuel pressure regulator has made my boat run like a top. Glad to hears yours is running better!

1993 Baja 24 outlaw stringer question

Try to at least get the profile of the stringers somewhat close to the hulls shape. Shim it up off the hull about 1/4", then completely fill the gap with PB.

Best value pre-made fiberglass filler alternative to making Fiberglass PB

That pic was for fiberglass grinding dust containment, not cabosil mixing. 😂 Good luck in whatever direction you decide to go.

1993 Baja 24 outlaw stringer question

I would personally use exterior grade ACX plywood and not dimensional lumber or marine plywood.
