Boat swamped, let's see if we can get it running...

You tried looking at Digikey? If the sheer volume of switches overwhelms you, even after filtering, I would either send an email asking for help, pick up the phone, or post on their forum. They are usually pretty responsive. *EDIT* Didn't even see that @savery recommended Digikey as well...

    core replacement, epoxy test panels

That's my understanding too - that the mat used on 1708 does not have binder in it. But I exclusively used polyester resin on my restoration (no epoxy), so I can't confirm first-hand that it will work. Have you tried picking up the phone and calling US Composites or another glass supplier? I...

    1981 Mitchell Center Console

Read the sticky threads at the top of this forum section (https://forums.iboats.com/threads/how-tos-and-other-great-information.283508/) - lots of great info in there! Go watch all of FriscoBoater's YouTube videos on his SeaRay restoration. That gave me the confidence to do the restoration of...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Alright all you carb die-hards, get your "I told you so's" ready. I blew the engine in my boat yesterday. 100% was my arrogance / indifference to multiple small warning signs that I ignored, and about that I'm pretty bummed. But...I've slept on it and I'm going to try like hell to have it...

Here's a walkthrough video I threw together this morning. About to head to the river.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I got it running in the driveway on the Sniper tonight. I've got some clean-up / button-up to do in the morning, and then I hope to go do some testing with load on the engine at the river tomorrow afternoon.

    Mercruiser 7.4 Starter Grinding/Partial Engagement?

I would go straight for a Time-Sert. I hate Helicoils.

Has anyone self-changed the trim sensors on a 3.0 XL Alpha One drive?

Nah, you need to get some of those Bluetooth trim senders. ;)

PB'ing new transom wood to boat

Yeah, mix it on the slow side (I think I catalyzed to 0.75%) and if at all possible, have a helper mix smaller batches on a table outside of the boat and hand them in to you. I showed my wife how to mix up PB and we were doing something around 20 oz batches. I can't recall how many we...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Good call. If it gives me issues I may be able to compensate in the tune for it, or I may change the setup if needed. It'd be nice if both sensors scaled the same and I could run just one sensor and split the signal to go to both the dash gauge and the Holley. I may research that some. Rain...

PB'ing new transom wood to boat

I used 1/4" chopped strand in pretty much all my PB, and definitely used it when gluing in the transom.

    core replacement, epoxy test panels

Totally agree with Ted. For 1708 layups o always flipped it over (mat side up) on a sheet of plastic and fully wet it out from that side. Then liberally roll on resin to where the glass will go. Then peel up your wetted out 1708 from the plastic, transfer to the work area, and start rolling it...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Thanks Zool and Buck! I feel like after today I'm over the hump. I think I'll be doing a first start around mid-week. I couldn't finish the install today because I ran out of 14 AWG wire, but should have more tomorrow. First thing I did was pull the port exhaust elbow, riser, and manifold...

    1986 Bayliner Capri 1600 Question

Agree with Buck. Do you have the space (dry and able to be warmed in the winter) to do the restoration? Do you have the time (mine took 18 months) and desire to see it through? You can learn the skills and if you're really into seeing it through, you'll come up with the money. You should make...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

More Sniper work today. The harness that comes with the unit is nice and well thought out, but too short for my application so I extended it to the length needed for my boat. After extending the wires, I got the harness installed in the boat and tucked out of the way with the other wiring that...

Is the 160 degree thermostat something I can go to an auto parts store to pick up or do I need to buy Mercruiser brand? Same engine as OP...a 1987 Mercruiser 350.
