    Mercruiser 305 V-8 Temp issues

Did you check that your exhaust flappers were still in place and in one piece ? If part or all of one has seen a “thermal event” in the past history, you can often find it further down the exhaust horn and restricting water flow/exit. But given what you’ve said. We all also know that gauges can...

    Speedo Tube

Some more modern engines don’t have the pitot pickup external evident. Rather a hole and ran internally then with a fitting under the hood perhaps.

    2001 Merc 125 2+2 Acceleration Problem

They certainly have a behaviour to them. Could be normal. But the mention of the carbs having been off and on…makes me wonder if the correct carbs have been put back in the correct locations. There is a difference between them, being the 2+2. Someone with more savvy on the subject can explain...

All is well on both concerns queried. Enjoy

    Stand cranking 90 hp merc.

You could either take the remotes and harness of the boat and plug them into the engine..or make a very handy to have “test harness” up. By purchasing a harness with ignition at one end and the correct pin plug at the other. A useful tool to have. If you literally just want to crank it..as in...

Mercmonitor First Power Up - "Warning No Starboard Engine" (part 2)

Send me a picture of what you have at the junction box. Do you have terminator resistors in any open ports ? Often when connecting smart craft items like this or the VesselView mobile (most commonly), there can be confusion around this. Especially on engines of and era early to the smartcraft...

99 mercury 150 XR 6 warning system not self testing

Me being a simple thinking man..has known it enough times to be almost embarrassing…that the there will be no beep from the first turn of the key…if the kill chord lanyard toggle has been activated. I also deliberately pull the lanyard on my more modern engined boats, at the first start up of...

Mercury 25 HP EFI OR106999 & Up Fuel Problem

Hi. The thing referred to as an air valve on the injector rail, is called a shrader valve. It’s for fitting a fuel pressure gauge into or sometimes used to bleed the fuel rail. I’ve done the latter often. To make the process of bleeding much quicker, in the event of running out of fuel or a...

    Mercury 150 optimax

Is the engine height too high ? Is there a jack plate on the boat ? How do you know you have an over speed alarm ? Or rather, what is indicating the fault, with not having any gauges hooked up ?

    RPM range question

Hi. What age is the engine ? Is the engine set up well for height ? Can I ask if you have normal gauges that didn’t come with the engine ?

Totally agree. Enertia on the chase here. Be around mid 60’s here

Got a new toy to test out eventually...

Excellent props. I use one occasionally on two of my boats. If I want sheer top end ability, they are simply brilliant. Noticeably lighter in your hand and more importantly, very noticeable when engaging gear on my alpha and the mercury outboard too. I’ve found that they can take a fair bit...

1988 20 hp Mariner (NO Spark)

Yeah…when it’s up…it’s in the normal position to run. It’s only when it’s activated or pulled down, it creates a circuit to earth, then killing ignition. Worth checking it at the other end too though.

1988 20 hp Mariner (NO Spark)

I’d make sure the toggle (kill switch) under the ignition barrel, is all the way up and not activating. Test the wiring there. Some of it looks a bit corroded or dry/brittle in places perhaps. Listen. It could be at the engine…but for sure, issues in that box will cause no ignition. The...

1988 20 hp Mariner (NO Spark)

Not sure that may affect things in the way you are having. At least not perhaps on that system. But almost certainly, the lanyard kill switch will stop any ignition (spark) if it’s intervening. Depending on what type of harness and or remote throttle box you have. If it’s active, this can...

1988 20 hp Mariner (NO Spark)

Yeah. If that’s what you have..yeah. Test that and the lanyard safety chord switch if you have one

1988 20 hp Mariner (NO Spark)

Sorry if I missed it previously, but how are you trying to prove a spark ? Do you have a spark tester plugged into the lead or something similar ? Or are you just trying to hold it against an earth on the engine maybe ? Not always a reliable way of doing it, if the latter. I find anyway. Did you...

1988 20 hp Mariner (NO Spark)

Hi there, Just a couple of reasons really. Maybe mostly because I wasn’t really sure of how savvy you might be around these kind of things in general and maybe it always being. Tough one to diagnose without being there in person. Another really good reason is because I’ve had and still have...
