Really stiff steering 2021 300 Mercury Pro Xs

Post some info about the boat itself and the steering system. It sounds like you bought a new motor for an existing boat. The problem may not be the motor. Its Most likely something in the steering. When my steering got so stiff that I needed two hands to turn it, I found it was the cable...

    Trim gauge off?

You should post exactly what you have for more exact instructions. Is it a Mercruiser? Alpha1? Gen1,2? Is it a bravo? And there are others. I've done it on my alpha1 gen 2 Mercruiser, but it's been a while. I went by the Mercruiser repair manual. It was a specific procedure. And yes, if it's...

Sierra Spark Plug Boot Fitment to Champion Plugs

I think I used them on my 4.3 Mercruiser a couple of years ago. The ones I used are blue too. I didn't have any problems. They must have changed something in the production. Probably trying to save money.... or rather increase profit.

Sierra Spark Plug Boot Fitment to Champion Plugs

Excellent! Who knew spark plug boots would be such a hassle.... Add them to the "use only OEM" list!

    4.3 liter no fire

Ok, that would have been so simple! It's good you have the exact engine sitting right next to it. Keep comparing everything. Check all the wiring. Maybe something didn't get reconnected, got pinched or pulled out of a connector.

    Battery Cover material

Post some pictures. It seems strange that it has so little clearance. How do you service the battery terminals?

Sierra Spark Plug Boot Fitment to Champion Plugs

I was, again, going to suggest using dielectric grease to coax them on, but at this point, get the OEM boots and be done with it. To me, there are some repairs where I will only use OEM and spark plug wires are not in that category, at least I didn't think so! Sometimes stupid things like...

    Transducer cable through transom?

All great advice from experts with probably an infinate amount of experience combined. Believe me, these guys know what they're talking about! But there are still some of us that are so paranoid about drilling holes through the transom or anywhere through the hull for that matter! Keep us...

    Transducer cable through transom?

I didn't want to make any holes either. This may be a Rube Goldberg way of doing it....but I didn't make any holes. Here's what I did: Also a bow rider. I ran the cable on the outside frame of my windshield, down to the black rubber bumper guard that protects the hull. I peeled the rubber...

    4.3 liter no fire

Did you check the emergency lanyard switch at the helm? I was once anchored out and went to restart the engine. It cranked and seemed to almost want to start, but no go. Someone must have bumped into that stupid switch, because I reset it and all was well.

Sierra Spark Plug Boot Fitment to Champion Plugs

When you try to put the boot on the plug, do you get the clicking feeling snapping sound that would indicate it's making the [electrical] connection? Or are you just worried that the rubber part of the boot kind of looks too short? If it's making [electrical], you should be good. You could...

    Considering '13 Bayliner 215

My 2003 Bayliner 185 has been a very solid and reliable boat. Other than normal maintenance, most of my repairs are due to it being an I/O. My next boat will be an outboard. No question about that.

In search for a 17 ft deck boat

I will echo what has been said... Bayliners may not be anywhere close to being top of the line, but if it was well taken care of, it could be a nice boat that will last you years. You could find a top brand that sat out in the rain with no cover and is completely trashed. I see it all the...

In search for a 17 ft deck boat

Without my swing away tongue, my 185 (18+) foot bow rider would not fit in my garage. With the tongue folded, there's literally 1/2" clearance at the garage door. If need be, I could have parked it diagonally since it's a two car garage. But then I wouldn't be able to fit my Silverado next to it.

    Bike show pics !

Thanks for all the awesome pictures! It brought back memories from when I was very young and my Dad rode. And then later when I got into motorcycles. I remember my dad having one of those white Hondas with the skirted fenders. I could be wrong but I think it was a 125. He didn't have the saddle...
