Don't worry about the EFI haters...I'll do a writeup on my Sniper installation when I'm done.

Mercury MCM165 6CYL 250CID Exhaust Riser for Holley Sniper

I'll be doing a Sniper on my 5.7 this coming week. I think for the riser you may have to go custom for the 250 - it's a pretty simple design though. I would take it to a local fab/machine shop and have them make one out of stainless for you. Take your stock riser and the Hardin one and tell them...

Cool, so an AR15 upper wrench has the same size spanner on it? Good to know!

    Wiring Gauge Question

It depends. The main things to consider for choosing the minimum wire gauge for a circuit are how many amps that the circuit is protected for and the length of the wire run. You can use a calculator like this one to help you choose.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Zool, do you just hold the cup up next to the hull to see how close the color is? Thanks for the tip...I think you're right about what color it needs.

Mercruiser 3.7 (470) wont turn all the way

That can only be determined by measuring the bores and then cutting until the groove is removed. Take it to a machine shop.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Worked on fixing the scratch today. I didn't finish, but I'd say today was mostly a success, being that I should be good enough to get the boat on the water the rest of the weekend. Here's the gouge before I started. I pulled the bow eye off for the repair. I used a 1/2" sanding drum on a...

    Sapele marine marine plywood

Didn't know you could get this. Yes, Sapele is sold as mahogany, because you can't buy Honduran mahogany any longer. It's good water-resistant wood. The original boat builder for my boat used mahogany in places and I used it in key places and didn't have an issue with polyester resin sticking...

    Gimbal bearing.

Here is a full transom reseal kit for an Alpha One Gen 1, genuine Quicksilver - it's $330. I paid $255 for the same kit in Feb 2021...crazy how much it's gone up.

    Mercruiser-compatible 10 micron water/fuel separator filter?

Well, I pulled my fuel water separator filter today and dumped it in a glass jar like you guys suggested and wow - there was about a tablespoon of nastiness in it! It's a Quicksilver filter (25 micron) that is new as of this past winter. When I had the carb off / apart last week, I saw a very...

    Mercruiser-compatible 10 micron water/fuel separator filter?

1987 Mercruiser 5.7 / 260 HP, SN 0B651656 I've got a fuel / water separator filter on my engine - Quicksilver PN 35-802893Q01. Looking up the specs, this is a 25 micron filter element. Is there a 10 micron filter element that will fit on my engine that is the same size as the filter I'm...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Today I built some cribbing under the keel and weighted down the tongue of the trailer to make some room to work on the trailer. Then I ground down the sharp corners on the bow roller supports which caused the gouge. Hopefully if I miss the center roller again, the boat won't hit the...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Just out of curiosity I sent the picture to a local fiberglass repair shop to see what they would charge. I was expecting a few hundred...was surprised when he came back with $2,550. o_O Not saying his time isn't worth that, but that's about 5 to 10 times what I was expecting. It's definitely...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Thanks, that will save some money. Any tips for taping and pulling tape timing? I'll go back and re-read your thread. And any issues with filling thr gouge with hairy PB instead of layers of CSM?

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Learned today that having the trailer in deeper is not better when trying to put thr boat back on. I'll have a project over the next couple of weeks to knock down the sharp edges on the trailer between the rollers and to fix this 8" long gouge. I'm finally going to try my hard at spraying...

Mercruiser 5.7 wanting to stall at idle after driving around

Idle air screws were set per Cliff's book...maybe I'll look over that procedure again. Where is a vacuum port to check the vacuum at? As stated in the original post, timing is correct. Just for good measure I double checked it again this morning - spot on 8 degrees BTDC at 600-650 RPM idle...
