    Eagle , Scat rod question

Thanks Lads, My block is already bored and honed for my 30 over pistons. The 383 sounds interesting. I would need a new crank but that is doable .The only problem is I would have to go to a Bravo out drive . That is not so doable. Just out of curiosity, what kind of torque and horse power would...

    Eagle , Scat rod question

I am at the point of deciding on either re-using my old PM rods or buying new forged steel rods. It has been suggested not to waste money on reconditioning my old rods , when new rods are about the same money. I can purchase a bore dial gauge to measure my old rods for out of roundness. But is...

    connecting rod bolts

Thanks, unfortunately up here in the Great White everything is double to what the prices are in the US. I am hopeful that my crank will only need a polish , and my rods check out ok.

    connecting rod bolts

When putting on new pistons , do most of you put new ARP rod bolts? Therefore having to resize the rod. One of my machinist's recommends checking the rod and resizing if needed , but not changing the bolts unless it is for high performance.

    5.0l vs 5.7l

Just a quick question , will my Thunderbolt IV from my 305 work with the 350? Just curious if the timing curve would be the same?

    5.0l vs 5.7l

Thanks lads , I already stripped down the 350. Crank , cam , lifters and rods are good . Interesting on the vortec heads. I think I will look for a set along with a block. May just sell my 305.

How to test for spark without cranking engine ?

Is it possible to test my Thunderbolt IV without cranking engine? I went to start the engine and found my carb leaking. But had no fuel on plugs . I will rebuild the carb , but i think I should check my ignition also. I can't just crank the engine because of my new flat tappet cam. So I am at a...

Break in fresh built mercruiser 230 out of boat

Quick question , The brown white wire from the terminal block for the trim sender should be connected to a 12v positive circuit? I am thinking the engine will not start if it does not see a voltage there. I have my test stand ready for the wiring .

Break in fresh built mercruiser 230 out of boat

I understand roller cams don't need to be broken in but my machine shop gave me instructions on flat tappet cam break in. If you don't break in a flat tappet properly you can loose the lobes because the lifters don't rotate properly. I agree that seating the rings is best done under load , but...

Break in fresh built mercruiser 230 out of boat

Since I don't have my out drive yet, I was thinking to break in my flat tappet cam on land. I have built an engine test stand. Just going to order some electrical gauges . The carb was rebuilt also , so I am not sure what to set the idle mixture screws at. I know I have to run the engine at 2000...

    Removing Upper Steering Pin Bushing

I used a small blade screwdriver . I put the edge on the bushing and tapped with a hammer . Then put the blade between the housing and bushing and twisted. Took a bit....but got the bushing out.

    Paint on head exhaust ports

just want to ask if the majority removes the paint on the head exhaust ports before they bolt the manifolds on with a gasket? The shop that did my heads painted them , along with the head. Not the intake side. These are v8 305 heads. Thanks, Carl

Alpha one Gen II upper steering bushing

I am rebuilding my gimbal assembly and have a question. When I took the upper steering pivot apart , there was no grease in the top bushing housing. Should I pack this area with grease when rebuilt with new bushing? There is no grease zerk like the Gen 1 . My serial number is 0D753918 . Carl
