dpsm outdrive holds pressure after seal repair but not vacuum.

I always put grease on a new seal , between the lips if it is either a double or triple lip seal. Seals are like pump impellers in that it only takes a few seconds to wipe them out if they are run dry .

Bought Boat and Steering is locked up

Psychic too Scott ? No mention of age in op , nor any indication of actual usage. If the cable has worn thru ( as you guess ) why does the helm need replaced ? If the cable inner has worn thru ( how would you know ) simply loosen the cable outer at both ends and rotate about its axis ½ a turn...

1995 Force 120 will no longer idle

A not very good tuners trick is to bend the reed stoppers so to allow the reeds to open further . There should be a spec to set the stoppers . It is possible that a po has bent the stoppers ,this wont help longevity of the reeds so maybe look into this before replacing reeds. Just found these...

Bought Boat and Steering is locked up

See this is part of the reason dealers are loosing to the internet. FFS Scott ,telling somebody asking for help to just replace the whole system before finding out what is actually wrong is just bollocks , shame on you . Tinjum, I have just made myself a pusher ( not really a puller ) to push...

I think I saw something fly out from under the starter. Take it off and have a butchers, might be obvious. But if it aint the starter, maybe a coil has come loose but it sure dont sound good .you will need way more water in that bucket if you want the water pum p to work . 60 bucks could have...

    1982 Johnson outboard 60 hp 2 cly

Yep , a fair few seem hell bent on pricing themselves out of the market . Now days with the interweb is easy for peeps to download pdf parts manuals and find parts on line for a fraction of what some dealers charge . I see a few comments from US guys that some dealers are gettin real snobby and...

    Don't tape holes.

I have just finished doing some of this on my 18hp Tohatsu. I had to remove the factory stickers off the top cover . I used a sharp wood chisel to slice the sticker off in strips and turps and a rag to remove the glue . Took me about 15 mins . And I didnt have a winge at anyone 😆

    1977 Evinrude 15hp pull start

Dress the edges of the keyway with a fine file, and just about any fine abrasive will do to lap it (or you could splash out for some genuine OMC flywheel lapping compound 🙄😂) . I have used kitchen cream scourer before. It wont be a million miles away and most likely will just need a light polish .

115 v4 2 stroke runs rough when warmed up

The Chinese make a 5hitload of parts and assemblies that are repacked and sold as oem parts . I have bought gaskets sets , engine components (pistons , rods , crankshafts ,cylinder blocks ,carb kits bla bla bla ) for 4 different outboards,2 quads and 2 motorbikes and apart from the freighters...

    1977 Evinrude 15hp pull start

Maybe somebody has had the flywheel off recently . I have seen where when one is fitting the flywheel the key is picked up by the flywheel magnets , begs the question tho why the flywheel was removed in the 1st place. Stick it back together and see how it goes 🙂

    1977 Evinrude 15hp pull start

When you have it all set up and a bit of tension on the puller giving the head of the puller bolt a moderate whack with a hammer can often break the flywheel loose without having to put to much pressure on the puller.

Mercury 35hp 2 stroke Lower Unit Stripped

Drill the head off the bolt. Stainless work hardens real quickly.....like as you drill. Get a couple of proper sharp drills ,some lube and a grunty drill and really lean on it. If you pussie about the bolt will work harden and you will likely ruin a drill trying to get thru it. Once you have it...

    propeller doubt

If you have a " ball park " stainless prop you should fit that and see how it goes . Save yourself some stress and forget the numbers for now . Try out the prop you have and if your not happy with the numbers then maybe 🤔 you can put them against the cost of a new prop . Dunno bout you guys in...

    1987 mercury 75

Nah more as a recipe for modification or determining if porting has been modified ,which could be a deal breaker if your trying to resto a classic . Some tuners publish their port maps so others can copy their results , you can now get silicone castings of the actual port runners , both 2 and...

Volvo Penta Outdrive SX-A - Stripped threads on oil fill/overflow hole - proper way to repair?

Well ya gotta do something ! 😁 And everything involves machining that hole . The stainless/aluminium thing doesnt really matter as the sealing washer will stop any water getting in to that union and there will be oil on the inside of the seal where the threads are. Use only sharp drills and taps...

Volvo Penta Outdrive SX-A - Stripped threads on oil fill/overflow hole - proper way to repair?

A metal insert would be to stop ham fisted wallys from strippin the thread 😁 . A 10mm screw would be the go , just supposing you can find one in America 😁 Drill the hole and cut the thread by hand with grease applied to drill and tap , just make sure you get it square .......not the hole ...
