    The Timing is what determines the Idle Speed on that Engine, so Your Mechanic can't just retard it unless it is to lower the Idle Speed. It is not like on an Auto where the Idle Speed is set by the Carb Opening.

    There are far Better Snake Oils than Seafoam, to put in the Gas in an attempt to remove Gum-Varnish. Merc PowerTune, or BRP Engine Cleaner. The risk of using any Cleaner in the Fuel System, is it will dislodge a clump of Gum/Varnish but not dissolve it, and that clump goes on to really plug up a...

    The Skeg has a Twist, as well as a Bend to it, and that could create some Cavitation at higher Speeds, on the low Pressure Side of the Twist

    If the Nuts had been backing off, the Eye should have, over time, been slowly emerging from the Bow. Maybe the Nuts were too big and after a bit what little Thread Engagement there was, sheared.

    Edelbrock does offer Marine Versions of some of their Manifolds I know some will argue with me, but the Cam of any Car/Truck Engine is not the proper Grind for a Marine Application. "Close" may be fine for Horseshoes, Grenades, and Nuclear Weapons, but not for Cams in a boat

    It is on my SX Drive. However you have a Different Drive. Do you have an Owners or Service Manual, even a Parts Diagram?
