    30 etec - 16 ft aluminum

The FICHT Engines(the Problem Children), which were the Grandparents of the e-tec, rarely had any issues when run at WOT. Use of BRP XD50 or XD100, especially the XD100 are designed with DI Engines in mind, and have copious amounts of Detergents in them. I have not seen any Service Bulletin...

Heat can cause components to fail, then by the time you get home, the affected part has cooled and is working when you troubleshoot.

Still need to hold it to tighten the Nut back on. Only Buffoons use an Impact to tighten Torque Sensitive Fasteners

Help Me Identify Old Super Sea Horse

There has been some flexing going on between the Transom and the Splash Well(black circles). Missing Bolts(blue circles) certainly aren't helping any Questionable Bracing. This area, has likely let a lot of water in You might think I am trying to rain on your Parade, but this a boat/motor...

Help Me Identify Old Super Sea Horse

The Block/Heads/and many other parts were used for several years of the 40hp, it wasn't until 1971 where major changes occurred to the 40hp The motor is likely a Rope Start, that was converted to Electric Start, as it doesn't have the Automatic Hot Aire Choke, and Exhaust Water Jacket Cover...

A Strap Wrench can be used to hold the Flywheel. Some People will jam something in the Teeth on the Flywheel, but I have seen Teeth damaged by that Method. That Nut isn't on there all that Tight, the Spec is 80 Pound Feet, which is less than most Wheel Nuts

1974 Johnson Sea Horse 65 hp 'OB

The Hydro-Electric Shift was a well engineered Design, shifted lightning fast. fast enough, that 50+ yrs later, a lot of the units still in use, still have the original Clutch Dogs. Wrong Oil or Water in the Oil, would create problems. I prefer it to the Hydro-Mechanical, as those are prone to...

    Boat is slow

First thing when it comes to tuning a 2 Stroke outboard, forget most of what you know about tuning a 4 Stroke Car/Truck engine. Finding a Shop to work on an older engine is like trying to drill teeth without Anesthetic

    Boat is slow

There is no Idle Timing Spec, so I suspect you are going to have to do a Complete Link and Sync.

What model & year is this? Worth any love?

That would have been a early 70s Bass Boat. If the Floor and Transom are still solid, you could get some use out of it, with a relatively small amount of money, but boats like this usually end up being Money Pits

    1963 MFG Niagara Runabout 14'

Welcome to iboats Gee, a 60 yr old Fiberglass Transom, and you want to over power it by about 50%. What could Possibly go Wrong? The old engine was likely Clamped on, the 70 will need to be Bolted on, so holes will need to be drilled. I wonder what condition the Wood will be in after 60 yrs...

High compression in 1 cylinder - 7.4 carb

You might have carbon buildup, likely from oil being burnt in Quantity. You could run a Borescope in to take a look, easier than pulling the Head. I suspect that knock is a Connecting Rod Bearing has gone bad and is what is throwing up the great quantities of Oil, which is overloading the Oil...
