Won't know the cylinders condition untill the head is removed, report if was found shot or in good shape to go from there. Better clean all the water passages removing what indicated, installing new base, exhaust covers, cylinder, thermo, thermo gaskets will be the best investment ever. Removing...

Glad to read the jet and nozzle were successfully removed, what solvent are you using to soak the nozzle ? will be a good idea to soak the upper carb part in the same solvent overnight, m/polish the internal nozzle's seat which must be really gunked, before the cleaned and shinny old nozzle is...

If that's a salt water motor remove the powerhead from the pan, remove exhaust covers, cylinder head, thermo cover. Inspect the cylinders for scratches, scores, if clean and perfectly round install a new head gasket along pan, exhaust and thermo cover gaskets as well. Take advantage to clean...

Are those carbs made by Mikuni or of similar name ? Tohatsu's main nozzles which looks same will probably match Yam's noozles which will be a goal shot from middle field. As a refference will take a pic and post its lenght, diam and number of mini orifices so to compare against yours. If all 3...

tohatsu 9.8 corrosion on vertical shaft (new thread)

Assume the motor it's a tiller one ? If so to ease the tiller load, there's a nut with a spring as seen in second pic under a small red square, turn it CCW till the tiller rotates freely sideways. When the lower bushing wears too much along working with hardened grease, the lower leg will tend...

Disconnect both cables at motor's end and start the motor electrically and see what happens ? Which Tohatsu 25 HP model will it be ? M25C2/C3 ? If the motor counts with a fuse, check that out too. Happy Boating

So got (2) new 115 slow jets, (1)125 middle slow jet, (3) 60 main jets but main nozzles remains same as are/were non available, right ? We hope the machine shop can pull out the screwed main jet on carb 2 and be able to remove the lower nozzle to clean/polish it out which would be ideal for all...

Evinrude 15 1992 Tiller arm low speed

What posted it's only a tech refference from the 96/ 9.9-15 HP Parts Manual. Probably varied through the manufacturing years ? Happy Boating

Evinrude 15 1992 Tiller arm low speed

Yours seems it's kind of fixed ? My old Evi 15/96 had one which rotated. The stop switch and lanyard are located way before the twist grip begins towards the left side of the arm. Is the idle rpm too low and trying to correct it with the idle adjuster ? Happy Boating

tohatsu 9.8 corrosion on vertical shaft (new thread)

To have it clear, does the steering shaft has already been removed ? The posted pic doesn't say much to make a correct visualization, interpretation. The steering shaft is tough steel, the wall is around 3.0 mm thick, won't break diving the motor into the deep blue anytime soon. The...

What's the cond of the current motor, has low, medium or high run hours ? Was it possible to start it back after unexpectedly dropped dead ? Disconnect both kill cord switch ends, will the motor start when puling the rope hard ? If starts will need to shut the motor pulling out the choke knob...

    Older 25 HP 2 Stroke

The compression will not fail suddenly, could happen if the motor achieved a severe instant head gasket blow out, which didn't happened, right ? Or probably your son run the motor without adding 2 strokes oil and seized the motor up ? If turns, it's any other issue which must be well diagnosed...

disable auto oiler on 90hp 2000 elpto

That motor must be one of a kind. To get the idea, when plug fouls excessively there will be some motor hesitation when the throttle is opened up that will cure itself once the motor starts heating up towards a mucher higher workint temp.. It's not that you have to remove the plugs and cleam...

disable auto oiler on 90hp 2000 elpto

With good strong spark the plugs won't foul.----This lubrication in 2 strokes is just not well understood. To start witht all motors must run with strong sparks or motor eficiency, top power will be lost. Go for a 2-3 hour trolling sesion with any HP motor with auto oiling and same HP motor...

Reasons for broken teeth on the gear wheel

So it's much preferred to screw the entire powerhead when lugging a portable or a under powered motor while pushing heavy applications and save the gearbox ? It's one or the other.... disable auto oiler on 90hp 2000 elpto

The good thing to count with an auto oiler is that when at idle that motor will be running say at 100:1, at open throttle at 50:1. If the oiling system is cancelled or removed the motor will rev at 50:1 ratio through the entire rpm range. Will foul plugs faster when idling, trolling.... Happy...

    Avon Stern Light

OK, that's a combo rated for max 40 HP motor and max 5 adult use, with 2 souls on board that combo should fly direct to Mars. Been wondering why Avon rates their "dinghies" with higher HP motors while other manufacturers rates theirs with less when comparing same size inflatables between them...

tohatsu 9.8 corrosion on vertical shaft (new thread)

The steering shaft it's a splined hard thick tube inlaid under the swivel bracket assy. Better file the current one to a smooth condition, won't be possible to remove existing nicks, severe pittings on the tube. Be aware that when the steering shaft is removed will find the swivel's bracket...
