which bilge pump do i need with a manual / auto switch

The pumps with the water sensor circuit will drain the battery over time. I don't like them, give me a float instead.

    Oil change could be easier...

Ah yes, I have the pump you pictured. I used maby two times, put it away and forgot about it. It's a bugger to clean out also, takes to much time for me. The mity vac is easy peasy.

    1986 Quadrajet (Chevy Pickup)

I think most are 650, overhauled a lot of them myself. I've seen plenty of people try putting on larger carbys trying to get more power without upgrading the motor. Then they complain that it won't idle right and don't preform well. The motor was designed for a certain size carb, try dumping...

    2004 Grand Cherokee stalling/shutting down

On my 99 Grand Cherokee, I bought it for the same issue. 4.7 liter. Changed the crank sensor twice, the cam sensor once. Still would stall randomly. One day I was frustrated, I raised it up and followed the wires slowly along the harness for the crank sensor, think like pulling each wire with...

    First Engine Rebuild you did

Cant remember when I tore down and fixed a lawn mower, maby 10? Did my first car motor when I was 16, overhauled it, ran great! Did several more before moving on to automatic transmissions, them were interesting. Did a few manual transmissions also. Now its boat repairs....lol

    Shrinkwrap gun alternative

This is what we use, it fans the flame out to cover more area, still have to be careful not to hold it in one place it'll burn through. The harbor freight one does work, we use it to secure the banding along the bottom. It'll do the job for the rest if you keep moving. Once the banding is secure...

    Fuel Tank Cleaning

That pitting looks serious. I think it best to replace, you have the perfect pattern, possibly someone local could fab one up or send it out to get a duplicate made out of aluminum or plastic .

    What's too old to consider?

If you can't fix it yourself, its to old.

    Oil change could be easier...

Don't know why this is so hard, the tube I use fits the dipstick tube perfectly. No mess no fuss. I don't use the stiff hoses unless absolutely necessary. MITYVAC Fluid Evacuator/Dispenser, Manual - 1XGR7|07201 - Grainger

1994 Mercruiser 3.0 high idle off plane

Someone must have put that spring on there. It may not bother the throttle, but it's never on there from factory.

So, what did you do today?

Went bow hunting. Don't look like any deer in my hunting spot anymore, I think they moved to the lowlands for the winter. Nothing on the cam since last Saturday. Pulled all my equipment.

Brain fart while removing Alpha drive

Did that myself. The shoe looked OK, re-assembled the drive, wouldn't shift correctly. A new shoe fixed it, the bend was real small couldn't really see it.

I never use the dipstick screw on attachment. I went to the hardware store and got clear hose that fits snug on the dipstick tube, stick it on the tube, pump the vaccume tub up , poke a hole in the filter and have a "soda" or two. No mess, no fuss.

    Electrical Panel Issues

What boat? Are you turning on the battery switch when on shore power? Shore power only runs the 110 volt systems. The 12 volt should work either way.

    Water Lines

The fittings should be regular pipe. Only use bronze fittings, and they make them to fit pex.

    Impeller

All impeller housings are built like that. It pressurizes the water a touch to get going where it has to go. If the housing was round, you would not need a rubber impeller. It could be just like a circulating pump impeller, but it would not pump water where it needs to go.

    Water Lines

I'd go with pex. There are alot of boats that have it, but some are I think metric sizes. Its a little more reliable than the old school gray pipe and fitting they used back in the day. Any local hardware should have it. But the thru-hull fitting should be bronze, with a ball valve attached...

    Plywood cover for open bow

Been on lake superior with my 17.5 Larson. Perfect calm day, left my bowcover home. Not a good idea, the wind kicked up about ten miles from home. I was taking water over the bow every other wave. Filled the ski locker full all the way to the bow under the floor. Considered beaching it but got...
