Have you tried pumping the primer bulb to see if that brings power back?

50hp EFI diaphragm fuel pump pressure

A friend asked me to look at his 2006 Mercury 50hp EFI. Motor runs okay as long as someone pumps the primer bulb every few minutes. I think I have the problem isolated to the diaphragm pump but would like to confirm how much fuel pressure it should be producing. I am seeing less than 4 psi on...

    Service manual for 7.5 HP

Just parts to overhaul a carb, water pump parts and a throttle lever. Maybe a couple of other miscellaneous items. All available so far. I can probably get them at my local Mercury shop in Oklahoma but a lot of the time it is faster and more economical to order the stuff online. I have to look...

    Service manual for 7.5 HP

Thanks, knowing the year helps. There are several parts discontinued but it looks like iBoats has what I think I need to get it running. Still looking for a free manual but not a big deal if I have to order a Clymer or Seloc.

    Service manual for 7.5 HP

I don’t know if I would call it copper.

    Service manual for 7.5 HP

I’m looking for a service manual for a Mercury 7.5 Hp 2-stroke outboard. I have no idea how old this motor is. Mercury tells me the serial number isn’t valid which is making it difficult to know what parts to order. Serial number on the tag is 6431074. Someone lied to a buddy and told them I...

    4.3 Mercruiser fuel supply issue

There wasn’t any indication of internal damage when the belt stripped. The manual says the valves can hit the pistons if the timing isn’t correct. Stripped belt pretty much guarantees the timing being off. However, when the pulley broke, the seal on the other cam let go for some reason.

    4.3 Mercruiser fuel supply issue

This could be hull style, props and/or the driver’s knowledge but the manager and I somehow ended up crossing the lake at the same time last year. He was in a 270 HP Cobalt 200 (Volvo Penta) and I was in the Sea Ray 210 with a Mercury 150 HP EFI. I got on step faster and walked away from him for...

    4.3 Mercruiser fuel supply issue

We got the boat back from the shop. The bill was about $3700 for a fuel pump change. The engine work is done and lake tested but I still have to crawl in there to put the hull back together. Season is over so no rush.

    5.0 GXi oil extraction

I filled the boat with oil and returned the boat to the dock on November 2nd so the guy who winterizes the 6 I/O boats in the fleet could do whatever it is he does to get antifreeze throughout the motor while in the slip. The pictures helps. Now I have an idea what to look for. I didn’t expect...

    5.0 GXi oil extraction

I think the $2K inspection camera is only 640 pixels. Mine is anyway. I bought it to inspect aircraft cylinders years ago but I use it for nearly everything I when I have a need to see something in a tight space. The specific problem with getting the oil out was it kept sucking air whether...

    5.0 GXi oil extraction

Mirror and flashlight sounds easier to me. Especially since I don’t have a “stick” to hold my phone and the mirror has a telescopic handle so I don’t have to hang head low and stretch my arm down there hoping I get a picture of what I need.

    5.0 GXi oil extraction

Thanks for the tip. I will have to crawl in there with a flashlight and mirror or videoscope and have a look.

    4.3 Mercruiser fuel supply issue

Is it supposed to a plain copper washer or a true crush gasket. If the latter, I may have one out in the hangar.

    4.3 Mercruiser fuel supply issue

I ended up turning this one over to the local Mercruiser service center for lack of tools/equipment to remove the outdrive and raise the motor shortly after my last post. I don’t have what I need to do it “right”. Apparently there were some missing parts because they called me asking about a...

    5.0 GXi oil extraction

I can’t speak as to oil change frequency before 3 years ago but every 100 hours or once a year since I got involved with the maintenance. The ski boats see just under 100 hours a year since they started bringing in more pontoon boats. The 2 outboard ski boats are more popular than the I/O boats...

    5.0 GXi oil extraction

Should be correct. I didn’t measure either but it looks exactly like the one in the boat I returned to the lake yesterday. Boat is a 2015 model with 1029 hours so who knows? But I fail to see how it could affect my ability to remove oil from a boat sitting level on the trailer. How could not...

    5.0 GXi oil extraction

I checked the oil level before attempting extracting the oil. The dipstick showed full but I am sucking air. I have only managed to remove about 2.5 quarts after an hour last night while the oil was warm and 2 hours this morning with the oil about 50 degrees. I am using a hand pump vacuum...

    4.3 Mercruiser fuel supply issue

Yeah, I won’t own a newer I/O for myself. It’s bad enough dealing with it for pay. The next one in line has a Volvo Penta needing a trim pump. Not a terrible job but a lot of blind groping around while laying on top of the motor trying to get it installed and hooked up. Rumor has it this outfit...
